Gift ideas NBR

My family has gotten so big that we buy a gift for one adult instead of all of the adults. This year we are doing a white elephant type exchange, but I'm totally lost as to what to get. What are some gifts that would work for all the adults, ages 18-60? We have a spending limit of $25 and I would prefer not to do a gift card, if possible.

I got a fun "movie night" basket at a gift exchange once. It had a $20 walmart card (with instructions that it was to buy a movie), in a popcorn bucket, accompanied by popcorn packets, popcorn seasoning, some candy, and a couple bottles of coke.

@krystalann94 White elephant is when everyone brings a gift, but it isn't for any one person. All the gifts go in the middle and people take turns picking a gift. Some people play where you can steal gifts that have already been opened.

A nice bottle of booze is always a big hit.

Are these people who enjoy funny or practical gifts?
DH and I participate in one that has about 40 people and we always buy stuff from thinkgeek.com, mostly because they have funny (but not crude) gifts that you can actually use.
Plus, just about everyone we know is a nerd sooo...

We've also done:
Chick-fil-a calendar (coups and free gift card promo, woot woot)
Nerf guns (enough small ones for everyone to play while we're together)
Loaf of bread in basket + olive oil and vinegar in nice containers + spices (surprisingly popular)

And as @lest12 mentioned, wine could be good (you could get a pretty nice bottle for $25, or even a decent bottle with 2 glasses)

I like the pp idea of doing a gift basket, you can make it coffee themed with a pound of coffee, a mug, flavored syrups (I've seen them at Marshall's for less than $5) or chocolate covered coffee beans and maybe throw some cookies or bisquits in there.
I also liked the idea of the movie bucket, if you don't want to give them the gift card you can buy a DVD of a holiday movie everybody likes (like Love Actually or A Christmas Story).

If there are a lot of men, you could do a basket with a bunch of car cleaning products. That is what I would do if we were doing this with DH's family.

This isn't an idea, but I went to one where, as a joke, we wrapped a guest's shoes up and put them in the pile of gifts. When someone unwrapped that gift, he was like, "Hey, those are mine!" We had a ball stealing them from each other the rest of the time.

I am all for mostly practical over cute gift baskety. Unisex scarf and hat,, magazine subscription, cards against humanity, board game, leatherman, travel coffee mug, glass water bottle, immersion blender, insulated cooler bag, picnic type blanket, throw blanket. Less practical: xmas ornament, xmas movies.
Books? I think Unbroken could be a good book that would interest a wide age range.

Whatever you do, don't bring a toilet seat. DH's family plays with stealing rules, and I got stuck with a toilet seat (with Garfield on it!) my very first Christmas with them. I'm sure someone brought it because they thought it would be funny - and it was! - but I had just had a box of really good chocolates stolen from me. It was a little disappointing.

I had to do one that was family wide...but also could have gone to a teen. I bought one of those premade cookie recipe jars from tjmaxx (pretty mason jar with all the ingredients layered) and a cute turquoise kitchenaide spatula and tied them together with a bow. Maybe something similar that's food related?

Whatever you do don't get something specific. My poor 15 year old SIL got a carseat pet cover. She had neither a car nor a pet. Very sad.

I have always done something similar to @ElTrain5's idea. I don't know if you have a Stonewall Kitchen (might be just a New England thing) but I like to make my own gift baskets there. I have done breakfast themed (pancake or crepe mix, maple syrup, whisk, toppings), hot chocolate themed (mug, hotchocolate mix, candy canes, marshmallows), etc. Stonewall Kitchen is big in my area and they have so many food related items to choose from so those are always a hit.
