STMs Pedi

Assuming your kids have/will have the same doctor, how did you go about doing that? Did you call the pedi and tell them that you were pregnant and due at XX time? I assume i can just call and tell them but I was wondering if there was any paper work or something involved in setting baby number 2+ with the pedi,
Thanks!

  • Our ped office usually has someone available at the hospital for after-birth checkups, and they know I'm pregnant cuz I've gone in with my other kids for their appointments. I think they schedule the first office visit right at the hospital before we leave.

  • We told our pedi we are expecting at DS well-baby checkup. We've had 2 appointments with her since and there hasn't been any mention of paperwork for baby#2. I'm sure every office is different but Im assuming that we will not be filling anything out until after he is born. Our plan is to make his first appointment after we leave the birth center and go from there.

  • When I took my daughter to her check up this summer I asked about it. They said to just call them when the baby is born, and they would make an appointment for a couple of days later. The on-call pedi in the hospital will check him out at birth, since we are delivering at a hospital not affiliated with our pedi's practice.

  • I was going to call and ask because DS needs the flu shot, but we're also considering switching pedis so it might be a moot point.

We moved ~ 45 minutes away from where we used to live when DS was born and the pedi office was right near there, and while I like our pedi, I've heard good things about some of the pedis that are only 5-10 minutes away, so .....

  • At my pedi, you don't have to notify in advance. I list my pedi's name on the hospital registration info, and they call my pedi's office when LO is born. Then, one of the pedis from the practice comes to the hospital within 24 hours to check newborn. Two out of three times, it was our actual pedi.

My pedi has always known in advance when to expect the call for me though, because she has seen my kid(s) for visits while I'm visibly pregnant.

  • We're moving DS to a new pedi that is much closer, and will be the pedi for DD. When I called to get all his paperwork in order I asked if I needed to fill anything out for the new LO and they say that our doctors office provides paperwork closer to the due date. So we'll fill that out and send it in when we get it

  • We didn't have to call, we just listed who the baby's doctor was on the pre admission form for the birth.
  • Ours is a pretty easy situation. We use the medical office that is associated with/attached to the hosipital. Everyone knows what is going on with us. Also, we just had my son's 2 year check up a couple weeks ago, and it was funny because I feel like we spent more time talking about my next labor than my son. Mainly because my son had a bit of a rough start with a NICU stay and everything, so his pedi really wants us to do everything in our power to avoid that this time. It works out well because my OB and pedi work very closely and will both be on the same page for delivery of this little one. I know when we leave the hospital with this one, they will give me a sheet that shows the dates when we need to make our first appointments. We will call and make those appointments before we even leave. I wouldn't be surprised if my sons pedi comes over to check on us (and meet her newest patient), whether or not she is on call at the time. She is just awesome like that.

  • I took DS to his 2 1/2 year appt and was obviously pregnant so we talked about it then. Our Pedi doesn't go to the hospital that I am delivering at so we will use house peds while in the hospital. Our Pedi just said to call the say we are discharged from the hospital and set up an appointment to get LO checked out that week.

  • Our pedi rounds regularly at the hospital I will deliver I. We just have to write it in the hospital form and the hospital notifies them if a birth.
