Baby shoes

When did you put your babies in good shoes? My 11 month old boys have just barely starting taking some steps and my in laws want to buy them some shoes from stride rite, which I'm not going to say no to! But everything I've read says barefoot is best for this stage in learning to walk so their feet can develop normally, Only wearing shoes when walking outside. My MIL thinks they should be wearing shoes all the time when learning to walk so it strengthens their feet. I will probably ask their pedi at our 12 month appt but any thoughts from you ladies?? Anyone use the stride rite shoes?

Re: Baby shoes

  • We only use shoes outside. But we also never wear shoes in the house, so that's not too helpful. I have heard what you heard - barefoot is best. I don't understand how shoes strengthen your feet.

  • We waited until last month when the girls were really running all over the place. We only put them on when we go outside and we did get them stride rights, they love them!

  • I like Nordstrom Rack for kids' shoes. I usually only get one pair per size bc they grow so fast and they only wear them outside. They started walking well around 13mo, so they had a pair of sandals over the summer and one pair of sneakers for winter.

  • Thanks everyone for the responses. My MIL bought each twin 2 pairs of stride rite shoes but I'm thinking I'll only have them on when we are out and about. I think it makes it harder for them to learn to walk with shoes on because they are kinda heavy on their feet. The shoes are so cute though!

  • Wearing shoes does not strengthen the feet :p

As others said, no shoes unless outside.
