Trouble TTC

New post, need some advice

Hi Ladies,

Sorry that I don't have the "lingo" down yet, but i'll do my best to follow along.  My DH and I have been TTC since August 28, 2013.  In April this year, we sought out help since we are both fairly healthy individuals with no major issues to report.  As it turns out, my husbands sperm have low motility and the counts are low as well.  About 2 weeks ago, we decided to make an appointment to have the IVF consultation since the fertility treatments we were trying weren't working.

My dilemma:  I had my period on October 2, 2014.  It ran a normal 4 days as it usually does.  I was also tracking ovulation in october and I know I ovulated on between Oct 14-16.  As you can imagine, we went at it like crazy trying one last time before seeking out the IVF people.  I was due for my period on October 30 according to the tracker I use on my cell phone called MyDays.  I am now 11 days late, but as of this morning got a negative HPT result.  It was a cheapy KMart brand that was a stream test, but i urinated into a cup and dipped it.  I should have read the instructions, but did not think ahead.

I had to go for bloodwork this morning so I should know this afternoon, but meanwhile, the minutes are ticking by very slowly and i'm just trying to rationalize this in my head.

Has anyone been pregnant but not gotten a positive result on a HPT til a few weeks in?

  • I've been using this app for years and it has always been within 1-2 days of me getting my AF

  • It sounds you are just having a random cycle of late or no ovulation - can happen to anyone, at anytime. Your period isn't actually "late" unless you ovulated over 16 days ago.

You could go to your GYN for a blood HCG and progesterone test to make sure you're not pregnant, and that you didn't actually ovulate, and then take meds to kick start a period. Or, you could hang on until you meet the "IVF people," but they will probably want you to get a period before you start an IVF cycle. And they will probably do/repeat some testing first if you haven't been working with an RE.

If you don't have a positive pregnancy test result - you are not pregnant at this time.
