2nd Trimester

Babies R Us overwhelmed Hubby

We went to BRU yesterday and DH was completely overwhelmed..and I might add that I was too.

OMG.

I'm at a complete loss as to what we REALLY need.

I have until April...I have until April...I have until April.

I really thought it would be fun, but it was just stressful.

  • I've decided to say away from that place all together. Plus I dont have one really local to me.

That entire store is crazy at all times! haha

    GL to you!!

  • My husband gets stressed even thinking about going into a store like that.  We went into USA Baby a few weeks ago to get a frame for my mom and he just had this huge look of panic in his eyes the entire time we were there, and he got this huge attitude about it too.  After we left, he was fine.  I don't think he realized how much stuff there comes along with a baby!
  • They usually have a registry guide to help you get started on what you need. It will be a little less overwhelming that way :)
  • I saw this coming for me too.  Print out the checklist that BRU has on their website.  It gives exactly what you need including how many of each.  It's called "The Must-Haves regisrty checklist!

I plan on taking the list and crossing it off as we go.  Don't forget you can always finish it online!

  • I'm having a friend that has 2 children (both boy and girl) go with us/me to register... she'll know what I need!

yeah, I got the list..the LONG LONG list...

Thank god other people like to buy baby stuff..or we'd be living on the street!

  • I've been studying registry checklists against what I hear on the boards! Lurk in 3rd tri and also in 0-6mo and there are great post about "what didn't you need?" and "What did you need that you didn't get early?" On 0-6mo, a few days back, there's a good one. I'll try to find a link in a minute.

I started a notebook with tidbits for registering. I want to get what I need and not frivilous stuff that I don't need- cause then I'll just end up buying most of it myself!

  • Let me know if you need help figuring out the stuff you really need and don't need. We bought the whole list with DS and maybe used 60% of the stuff.
  • LOL!!!  That was my first experience there.  I was so overwhelmed that I turned around and left.  Next time, I just divided and conquered with the help of my trusty baby bargains book.  Worked much better just focusing on one item at a time.

  • DH and I did this in stages. I printed out the list and tried to figure out what we really need. Then we did some reading online about certain products that we think we wanted. Then we went to the store to check out the big products and pick them out. This way when we went to register, all we had to do was click on the big stuff and really only had to think about the smaller stuff, which eased the stress. Seriously, we've been working on this since my 13th week or so.?
  • It is overwhelming... I had to go a few years ago just to buy stuff for a friend and I was totally freaked out. I have gone a few more times since then, but know that when we have to go for our own baby it will be just like my first time there. I have started a "wish list" on babies r us to get me thinking. I am planning on printing it out the day I go and using it as a "cheat sheet".
  • I was going to say the opposite. Don't use the "must have" list that BBRU provides. It is just a gimmick to get people to register for tons of stuff at their store. You really don't need that much stuff, and you will get overwhelmed if you spend all day trying to pick out 200 things.

    Just stick to the basics:

stroller, carseat, pack n play, high chair, crib sheets, diapers, wipes, bath tub, onesies, bottles, breast pump, first aid kit, some baby proofing stuff

That's it! If you are a first time mom, I'd recommend picking out most of it online by reading the reviews anyway. You can narrow down your top picks by trying them out in the store.

  • It is definitely overwhelming. I went with two girlfriends who are mommies and they were so helpful. I would have been so clueless without them. I have to go with DH to register for bigger items like stroller and infant car seats. I figured that would be best, I didn't want to overwhelm him.
