TMI warning! Leading to wonder What are you guys eating to stay regular?

Hi All,

This morning was horrible - I spent an hour - AN HOUR - in the bathroom trying to go #2 (I sound like I'm referring to my dog). Nothing was happening but it was way past the point of getting up and trying later, get it? My DH actually had to come home from work and give me an ennima - which btw - wasn't as bad as I thought and worked within a minute. (For those who may be wondering lol)

SO, can you guys give me a sample menu of what you eat everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner? I know fruits, veggies, fiber, water are super important. I'm just bad with meal ideas lately and I always put my 1 1/2 year old ahead of me and I just end up "picking" all day. If I have some meal ideas I may be more inclined to actually make them. I NEVER want to experience what happened this morning ever again.

Thanks ladies :)

  • There have been a lot of discussions about this already, and this might not totally answer your question...but you know the foods that already have a lot of fiber in them.  Water water water...also.

Truth is, that might just not be enough.  Benefiber dissolves into drinks VERY easily.  That wasn't enough for me, so I added Colace.

If you get too backed up like you did today, milk of magnesia will get things moving.

This is what I learned from previous posts and my OB.

  • Milk of Magnesia if i am already backed up and bloated. Definitely has helped. I have been making it a point of eating apple sauce or fruit cups in the morning to help. I also try and eat oatmeal bc fiber is good. And then during the day, i eat what i want usually. Last night i was craving a salad so i had one. And it was nice.

Just watch your non high fiber carbs. I lived off of pancakes, toast, and pizza and it was a very painful decision in the long run...

    ACTIVIAAAAAAAAAA...

Ah! Yes! I forgot about Activia - thank you!!!

Thanks ladies for all the feedback!
  • I know there have been some threads about this, I apologize for the repeat.

I know the foods that will help, but was more wondering what meals you guys put together with them so I could get some ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, it's appreciated.
  • 80-100 oz of water daily. I have several 20 oz reusable water bottles that I make sure to refill 4-5 times a day. Also, I add benefiber to my coffee every morning, take the full dose of Colace daily, and I have a serving each of whole grains and fruit/veggies with each meal. The balance in my meals is the hardest part, but I just force myself to do it even if I end up eating the weirdest, mismatched meal ever!

  • To get some veggies I bake them. I do Asparagus or green beans on a cookie sheet with light olive oil salt and pepper. Bake at 425 for 20-25 min (try to turn them half way through). And then I add some freshly grated Parmesan at the end. That is a new idea though, you do not have to add the cheese.

I also do broccoli on the stove. I heat the olive oil and throw in some broccoli florets. First I cook them on a low-med temp covered for maybe 5 min, then turn up the heat to a med-high or high to let them get kinda crispy. So good! You can use so many different seasonings on it also.

I try to do a veggie like this with dinner every night, and I make extra so I can have left overs with lunch the next day.

    Good Luck!
  • Colace, Milk of Mag, and lots of water.  Coffee usually helps too.
  • Thanks ladies! The roasted veggies with parm sounds great. Unfortunately I can't drink coffee :(
  • Salads at lunch, roasted veggies at dinner, and any p fruit, prunes, pears, peaches, etc. Sometimes too much fiber can hurt, like apples.I also did some clinical magnesium supplements with my son and that helped a bunch. This time around as long as I eat a few big servings of veggies and a handful of prunes, I've been ok. Stay hydrated too!

  • I have a yogurt everyday. I also drink at least liter of sparkling water a day. I'm not sure if that's the trick, but it seems to be working very well.

  • @islandmom79‌ I will def look into that, thanks!
  • I just switch my prenatal vitamin to Rainbow Light Prenatal One and it has some probiotics and has helped 100% with my bathroom issues. This past week has been like night and day, I feel great. I do eat fibrous foods, veggies, salads, fruit and a small cup of coffee in the am is very helpful.
  • I just put 2 doses of benefiber in my coffee each morning and I'm all set for the day.
  • Raisin bran, apples, water and coffee

  • @CaterinaC‌ I had no choice, I could barely get up and out of the bathroom!
  • Chia seeds!!! Put in smoothies, yogurt, dump some in water, or make chia pudding
  • Coffee and probiotics make a world of difference for me. When I was really sick from MS, and couldn't drink coffee, I took Miralax.
  • Also, try eating a banana every day.
  • Eat a bran muffin, but beware....
  • greek yogurt and fruit and apple juice.

  • Thanks ladies! I appreciate all the tips.
Since my "episode" I've been drinking 100 oz of water/day and it's been helping. I'm not 100% but it definitely helps.
