eczema relief?

I'm pretty sure that I have developed pregnancy-induced eczema. I did speak to my doctor about it on Friday and she took blood to rule out any liver problems. All my blood work came back normal. She said to use some aveeno, cortisol cream, and I can take a benedryl if I need it at night.

My skin is crazy itchy mostly my hands, the tops of my feet, and my arms. The remedies she suggested work a little, but I still get the crazy itching. I have started putting ice on the areas, but that was proving to be hard today while I was trying to get some grading done.

Do any of you have any experience with eczema and have any tips or suggestions? It's really frustrating.

CJ's Butter is my favorite. It comes in tons of great scents or you can get scent-free. It is a really thick lotion that seems to heal all sorts of skin issues. I order mine online (cloth diaper websites tend to carry them). I use this as a thick night time layer to protect and heal over night.

I also love Sympathy For the Skin by Lush. It is extremely nurishing and absorbs fairly quickly so I use it as a day time cream. Plus it smells amazing!!

  • I have tried a ton of different products for the eczema on my face. The only one I have found to work is Cortizone 10 eczema cream.
  • Lush makes a cream that was designed specifically for eczema, it's called dream cream! It's amazing! I generally get eczema during dryer times of the year and just got it on my knees. After using dream cream for just under a week my itching was almost completely gone and most of the bumps were gone as well. It works wonders and if you don't have a Lush store near you, you can order it online. It's definitely worth trying.
  • I am a long-time eczema girl. Hands during the summer, top of my right foot (weird right) during fall/winter/spring. I've had it on my face, as well as a really miserable moment in time where I actually had it on my lady parts. Soooo awesome.

Shower in the coolest temp that is comfortable for you, and keep shower time short. Only shower when needed...like ideally not every single day. All soaps and lotions should be scent free, including laundry detergent and fabric softener. No artificial dyes (scents and dyes are #1 irritants). Limit use of alcohol based hand sani, and lotion immediately after handwashing. Aveeno daily moisture lotion is great for all-over body lotion. Limit sugar intake (sucks but helps a TON). Check into anti-inflammatory foods. Limit stress (yeah right) but try to take time for yourself when you can. Theraplex clearlotion is basically a really simple noncomedogenic jojoba oil-based moisturizer that I personally swear by for face (esp in winter months). OTC steroid creams & ointments are fine to use, just try not to use them daily over a large area of skin (obvs ask your OB if you're concerned about it).

Good news? Once the baby's born it will most likely go away for you.

Be careful using any kind of steroid on your face, particularly over long periods of time. Prescription steroid creams in particular have been known to cause steroid-induced rosacea (which is no treat) and even OTC steroids can cause thinning of the skin, particularly in areas like the face which already has much thinner skin to begin with.

  • I use aveeno daily but when mine flares up my doctor prescribed me Elidel which she said is safe during pregnancy. I would ask your dr about that. Coconut oil has also provided temporary relief for me in the past, but I would have to apply it constantly. Also try not to wash whatever area on your body that is affected with water. I know it seems crazy but it helps. Use a waterless cleanser like Cetaphil.
  • Cortisone eczema. If you have a walgreens in your area there is mild steroid over the counter called cortaid. Does wonders! Only can find it walgreens. I usually buy all they have bc it's way cheaper than the steroid cream the doc prescribes that my insurance covers
  • I have eczema on my face, under my nose and in the corners of my eyes and mouth.  Always have had it, and the best product I've found to help is vaseline.  It's thick and slimy so you might want to try using it at night while wearing some soft cotton gloves.  I know bath and body works used to sell the gloves in their spa line.

  • I put Aquaphor on dd and it works wonderfully!

  • I have a prescription steroid ointment I use when it's bad. Aquaphor works well, especially with eucerin eczema relief lotion over it. We also use fragrance free everything.

  • Thanks ladies! I don't know how some of you manage when you have it all the time. This itching is miserable.

I will definitely look into some of your recommendations. I do have the cortizone-10, but I got the ultra moisturizing, so I'll pick up the eczema one tomorrow and see if that does anything different and if no luck call my MW for something stronger.
