Anyone hear of a night nanny?

What is a night nanny, just curious. Heard someone talking about it at the park today, felt stupid asking

    I feel like that would be a really boring job...just hang around until baby wakes up.

    Is this a serious question? 

    My friend hired one but she had triplets and needed the extra set of hands. They are very expensive.
