2nd or 3rd time moms with diastasis recti?

So I've searched the forum and didn't find anything that helpful so I figured id try here.. If you already had diastasis recti from your last pregnancy, are you wearing anything now to try and correct it or make it less severe? If not, when do you start and what product has been the most beneficial? Thanks in advance!!!

  • I had it with my first, and already the diastasis has opened up. It's pretty awful.

    Post partum, I do a lot of supported crunches and side planks that were recommended to me by my PT. It mostly closed up last time, so I'm hoping I can do it again. <fingers crossed>

  • My midwife said to focus on holding my belly button in toward my spine, but that unfortunately it will likely happen again. She said I could try a support belt, but I think if the muscles are weak in the center (can be caused by crunches etc that cause the muscles to separate) the belt might not help. Maybe it will be less painful?Mine did close (at least enough I can't find it) & I'm hoping it won't be as bad this time.

  • I am a 2nd time mom and have a severe diastasis. 11 + fingers wide. Not sure if I can get it to go back together without surgery but it's horrible and it hurts. You ladies that only have 2 or 3 is lucky. Just one of those things I did not no that could happen after having babies :(

    How do you know if you have it or not?
  • I still look pregnant....if I lay flat my stomach goes away. Lay flat with your knees bent like your going to do a sit up. If you have it you can push down in the middle and feel for your muscles. Doc measures width of the opening. If you have a gap thats more than 2 or 3 fingers you have it. If you Google it you can see. Most people who have had babies will have a small one that some exercise can fix.
