Pain at top of my belly

For the past week or so, the skin at the top of my belly has been super sensitive/ painful. Whenever anything touches it, (clothes, sheets, my hand...) it hurts really bad, but it's definitely just the surface, not deep pain. I've been putting lotion on it like crazy, but it's not helping. Anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

Re: Pain at top of my belly

  • Is it after you have been standing for awhile? I get this weird itching/burning in a spot right near the top of my bump just under the skin after I have been standing for awhile. I rub it but it still bothers me. I think is some kind of nerve thing though.

  • I had that for a while. I don't know what it was but it went away. My guess is nerves from skin stretching or something. I had it for about two/three weeks if I remember correctly...

  • I have the same thing!!  I asked my dr about it, she said: 'It's most likely caused by the pressure baby is placing there, if LO rides high & tends to hang out under your ribs they are cause muscular pain that may be confused with topical, ALSO the skin there is being stretched bc of said pressure so that'll also cause it to be super sensitive'  Like another poster said, not much you can do about it. BUT it shouldn't last 'forever' Good luck!!
  • Thanks ladies! Sucks there's nothing I can do about it. Seems weird to me that it's just at the top of my belly when the middle of my belly has been stretched the most. Hoping this doesn't last till i have the baby. I'm going to be 33 weeks tomorrow so still have quite a bit of time to go.
  • Interesting!  I have pain in that area, but also have a scar from surgery right at the top of my belly.  I've been blaming scar tissue this whole time.  For me, it feels like burning, and it's definitely worse when baby pushes up into that area.  Unfortunately, the best I can recommend is avoiding clothing that rubs the top of the belly (ha! as if that's possible in maternity clothing) and trying to get baby to move a little.
