I have a girl on FB that had a baby 2 weeks ago and lots of her pictures (inside) have the LO wearing a hat. Are these necessary? I have some baby hats and assumed I would put them on her when we'll be outside since it will be cold/snowy. Are they necessary indoors? I realized after looking at her pics that I have no clue.
And those mitten things.. so they don't scratch their faces, did you guys use these for previous LO's? I don't have any and thought maybe I should get some?
... just my stupid clueless questions of the day

Re: Hats & Mittens
My kids were both born in May so I didn't use hats except outside at first. I don't know about that one. I have a couple hats. I guess I'll decide at the time.
Re: hats, it takes a couple of days for most babies to start efficiently regulating their own body temperature. So hats are good at first, but normally only for a couple of days. I don't really use hats after being discharged from hospital.
I can see myself putting a thin hat on her indoors bc our apt gets very drafty and I'm cold in here a lot. I'm going I worry that she's warm enough.
I didn't use hats inside. I think a lot of people use hats(especially in photos) to cover their baby's cone head.
ETA: My guys were December and March babies.
We kept a hat on her in some rooms of our house until she was 2 weeks old. Our home is older and doesn't have the bet insulation some places.

The hats we used for a few weeks because I felt it was too cold for the baby if they didn't even inside. My babies were born with almost no hair on top of the usual lack of ability to regulate their body temp. I don't think it's going to hurt if you choose not to put the hats on, but I personally thought mine fussed less when they were all warm and toasty.

The mitts are awesome, but DS would always lose one and scratch himself. So I prefer the onesies with the flip sleeve. You could also chew the babies nail off, until you feel comfortable with clipping the nails, or a baby nail file works as well.

I usually just folded over the sleeves on the sleepers, but didn't go crazy on the mitts. She wasn't really a scratchy baby.
