Just under 6 hours from the time my water broke at home and he was born. Contractions didn't really start until I had been at the hospital for nearly an hour.

Induction. 24 hours cervical ripening (this does not count as labor) 2 hours of pitocin before active labor began, which lasted about 4 hours, including an hour of pushing.

If you're one of those moms who had a 5 or 6 hour labor with your first make sure you get to the hospital right away with your second!. A close friend of mine had a short but still in the normal range labor for her first and then with her second she went into labor at work and then tried to drive herself to the hospital then had to call someone to come get her because she couldn't make it the rest of the way. She's silly though. Personally, my first labor was 36 hours and my second labor was 8 hours. Huge difference.

I marked 6-12, but it was only 4 hours from when I really started to pay attention to the contractions. I had a lot of prodromal labor for the entire week prior to his birth. So when the "real" contractions started I actually blew them off. It wasn't until I started having stabbing back pain that I realized that something was different.

14 hours for me, from water breaking to DS being here. i think it might have been more like 11 or 12 if i hadn't had the intrathecal, because i went from 5-8 in the half hour i was waiting for the anesthesiologist, which made them uncomfortable with giving me a full epidural, and then it took me another two hours to progress the last 2cm AND i still had to "labor down" for another couple hours after that.

my OB is predicting 7-8 hours for me this time, based on my labor length before. we'll see. i don't think previous labor lengths really have a lot of bearing on subsequent labors.

Around 5 hours. I was induced, we both went into distress (due to eclampsia) I was put to sleep, then emergency CS, I was kept in a sleep state for another 48 hr, THEN I got to hold my DS.

12 hours after induction started.

#2 was 11 hours after pitocin.

#3 was 5 hours after pitocin.

Hopefully I go into labor myself this time, but she should come quickly if I end up induced again!

I said 6-12.. It most likely would have been on the lower end of that - but I was scheduled for a c-section that day and I went into labor 1am the morning of. Got to the hospital at 3:30 at 5cm.. and right before Matt the anesthesiologist got there somewhere around 4:30, a nurse asked the OB on call if he should call Matt again and if I was close, and you could see it in my face that I was.

almost 24 hours on the dot from when my water broke to when she was born via c-section. I never dilated despite all the pitocin. I'd say don't stress because you can't control it, but I seem to be stressing everything lately so I'd be a hypocrite if I said that. Just make sure you have a plan in place for a family member or friend to be the one to take you to hospital and be available to stay with you through labor until your husband can make it to you. Plans always help my stress levels

48+ hours for #1. However the end was fairly fast, 3.5 hours from 5cm to delivery.

28 hours for #2 from the time my water broke.

8.5 hrs from water breaking to DS being born - forcep delivery, almost ended up being c/s.

I had dull & increasing back pain (I'm guessing that was maybe back labor) starting the afternoon before, but that never felt like contractions, just uncomfortable. Woke up more uncomfortable & couldn't get back to sleep about 2 hours before water broke, but still wasn't contracting until after my water broke.

I'm okay with the second baby being a shorter labor, but not too much shorter!!! I don't want to miss that epidural window!!

Good luck! I hope your DH can make it! Do you have someone else to go with you to the hospital??

SS: I was induced so they started meds to soften my cervix overnight and then pitocin in the morning. So in total it took 24 hours but from the time they started pitocin (and contractions) to when I was holding my baby was 12 hours.

Thanks for all the responses, ladies! For those that asked, I do have a doula that knows our circumstances and will be meeting me at my house to help me labor at home for a while and will be helping me get to the hospital. I just don't want DH to miss out on our first child being born if we can avoid it...
