This is my first cycle on Progesterone. My post O temps are a lot higher than previous post O temps. Is that a typical result of Progesterone? Are these the temps they should have been pre Progesterone? Not sure if I'm making sense.
Hi @Happy2BPreg! Would you be open to sharing your journey to start progesterone? I am thinking this may be my issue.
Yea me to. I only had a 7 day Luteal phase this cycle. I'm worried about my progesterone, but I'm self diagnosing it right now. lol I haven't been back to my Dr yet.

I personally would give it a few cycles before you think there is a problem. I am on mobile so I can't see your siggy or if you included how long you've been charting/if this is an ongoing problem.
If I have a short LP this cycle, this may be my issue too. It'll be three months in a row of a short LP. Considering I haven't ovulated yet, I'm thinking this might be the case. Ugh.
Married to DH (aka the love of my life) since June 17th, 2006

It is just my first cycle of charting so I'm not to worried yet. I have only been off BCP for 3 months also so I know that can still be screwing with things. Thanks.
I am interested too. I haven't had a cycle since stopping BCP in August. I have an appointment next week with my doctor. My MIL is a nurse and she said I probably will be starting this to get things back on track.
Short luteal phase can be related to weak ovulation not always luteal phase defect. Taking progesterone supplements with weak O won't do much to lengthen LP.

From temping I can see a clear shift after ovulation but my period consistently comes on day 8-10. Do they do any testing before giving you progesterone? Does an RE have to do this or can your OB?

You can have a clear shift and still have weak ovulation. I had clear temp shifts for months with a consistent 8-9 day LP. With progesterone my LP is still only 10 days. The progesterone did nothing.

Basically, weak ovulation means that the whole series of events isn't as strong as it could be. So in the early part of the cycle, your FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) might not be kicking in enough and/or your follicles maybe aren't developing as fast as they could (leading to a ovulation later than cd14). And when they produce an egg, it's not as mature as it should be and/or isn't the highest quality egg. Meaning, chances of a successful fertilization are lower.
That lower-quality, less-mature egg also means that your hormones after ovulation aren't as strong, either. The follice that ovulated the egg turns into the corpus luteum, which produces the progesterone in the luteal phase. The progesterone's jobs are in part to raise your body temp a bit to make you a good incubator and to hold the endometrial lining in place so an embryo can implant. But if the follicle and egg weren't properly developed, then the corpus luteum ends up not doing that great of a job either at making progesterone, and therefore the progesterone is lower than is could be. That means you might have low temps in the LP. It also means that the progesterone isn't able to adequately keep the lining from shedding, which leads to spotting or a short LP.
The idea is that with fertility medication (clomid, femara, or FSH shots) it would fill in for your natural FSH to stimulate your ovaries to produce a higher-quality, more mature egg. And that increases your chances of both fertilization and a healthy embryo. And as a consequence you would produce more progesterone in the LP, increasing your chances of a successful ovulation. Hope that all made sense!

Such good information in this thread! So where does B6 land in all this? I read about that lengthening your LP in another thread. Trying to put the pieces together.
Hey y'all! Sorry I've been busy and haven't had a chance to check back!
I've been charting for 7 months and my LP has been anywhere from 6-9 days. My OB looked at my charts and agreed it was an issue. I'm on a low dosage of Femara to strengthen my ovulation and a low dosage of Progesterone for my short LP.
@jesselayne8 Does this mean a later ovulation decreases the chance of a successful fertilization? If so, I'm screwed. (
Its still possible to get pregnant with late ovulation. My DS was conceived on CD 24. Its also possible to get pregnant with a 10 day LP. My point was that different issues in your cycle can all manifest themselves as a short LP.

I would also like to jump on this question train if that's okay? I have had late ovulation (CD 28, 24, 20) and short LPs (8, 7, and 8 DPO) the 3 cycles I have been temping (I am on cycle 6). I have read that a supplement of vitamin B 50 complex (B6 and B12) could lengthen my LP. I started taking it a few days ago after speaking with the pharmacist to ensure I didn't have any medications that would interact with it. I am very interested to hear your opinions. Thank you in advance! @jesselayne8@FINEdoubleLINE@MsFaith15@bluebird44
@FINEdoubleLINE Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! I brought up my short LPs to my OB at my annual appointment last month (at that point I had only 2 short LPs). He said to come back in 6 months for testing if I hadn't become pregnant yet.
Are you familiar at all with the type of testing that would take place? Does it make sense to wait the 6 months? I am leery of OBs giving TTC advice from what I have read on these boards about it.
Did you get off hormonal birth control in June? If so I would give it another 6 months like he said.
