Bedtime Routine

Re: Bedtime Routine

  • We eat dinner as a family, I put DS1 to bed while DH gives G a bath. I then get G, put him in pj's and feed him. After he's done with his bottle, I lay him down and he goes to sleep.
  • Loading the player...
  • Nurse, bath, jammies, read, maybe a little more nursing and then walking around a little or just laying down with our eyes open and dozing off to sleep. Sometimes there is more walking around then I'd like, but we are still working on consistently soothing ourselves.
  • 6:30pm-rice cereal
    6:45pm-bath
    7:00pm-nurse
    7:30pm-in bed
    6:30/6:45am-start the day

Same routine every night. Every other night is shampoo/soap night.

Almost exactly this, only we don't do rice cereal or any solids this late in the day. Makes my girl way too gassy.

And since daylight savings we've been starting a little earlier because she is tired earlier.

  • I give her a bottle, change her diaper and put her in pjs, read a couple books, sing a song and then put her down.

  • Cereal and veggies at dinner around 5-5:30
Nurse on one breast around 6
Say bye bye to toys and put them away
    Shut/dim lights
Hubby gives L her bath around 6:30
He then massages her with lavender cream, brushes her hair, PJ's and kisses her goodnight and brings her to me.
I nurse and then rock/sing a song and put her down in her crib and say goodnight
  • 5 nurse
    5:15 solids
    5:45 bath & PJs
    6:15 play downstairs
    6:45 ish nurse
    7ish bed
7 pm-6:45 am wake up 6 times in complete defiance of the benefit of a bedtime routine
  • Am I the only one that doesn't really have one still? We dim lights and bathe on occasion but we generally don't follow a specific routine every night.

5-5:30 "dinner" (solids) followed by small bottle
    6-7 playtime
    7 bath and jammies
    7:15 bottle
    7:30 bed

This is the only routine we follow daily, some days we're out and others we're home and it works for us. DH and I went out for dinner with LO last weekend and we totally ate at 4pm so we didn't mess with his routine! Must not fuck with bedtime!

    Edit- posted too soon
  • 6-6:30: Quiet play (possibly some solids? We're just delving into that)
    6:30: Bath and onsie/sleep sack
    6:40: Final feed
    6:55: Story (same every night :) )
7:00: Put baby on our bed, put on his helmet, and say my goodnights
7-7:10: Puts self to sleep in his pack n play

We've been doing the same thing from the very beginning, and it is the smoothest part of our day. I am a huge believer in the importance of routine!

  • We don't bathe every day because it is so dry here that it is not great for my kids skin.  So we bathe every couple of days.

    Routine:
    5:30 - Dinner
6:00 - play on mat while I clean up from dinner
6:15 - change into pjs and put on grobag
6:20 - Read books with my 3 year old and baby
6:40 - nurse in my room
7:00 - In bed drowsy but awake
  • Now I feel even worse for not having a consistent routine... how do you ladies deal when irregular schedules mean different people are putting your LO down for the night?  Some nights I work late, so my SO has to put him to bed, or else both of us are working so grandma has him.  He's very boob-dependent, so it's not always easy for other people to get him to calm down.  Also, are all of these little ones putting themselves to sleep when you put them down?  Or is there a lot of soothing involved?

    Our routine currently:

Anywhere between 6:45-7:30 (depending on how his naps were during the day): bath
7:30: put in night diaper and sleep sack
7:45: put music on and nurse
8:00: down in crib, and about twenty minutes of patting later, asleep.

  • Between 5:00-6:00: 30 min cat nap
    7:00- 1oz oatmeal 5 oz bottle
7:25- Change diaper, into sleeper & sleep sack
7:45-8:00ish Turn lights on low, put down for night.

Usually 1-2 wakeups (put paci back in) and she gets up between 6:00-6:30am.

@kangstadt‌ we follow the same routine regardless of who is putting C to sleep. If it's a sitter we skip the bath and just do lotion. I just make sure to right the routine down for the sitter.
C needs to be soothed to sleep though we are trying to get away from this slowly- she falls asleep at the boob or bottle typically; if not she is rocked to sleep.
  • Wow, lots of people give baths every night! We still only do 2-3 baths a week :-S I guess DD is the smelly kid!

Our routine is really simple. Diaper change, bottle, bed. Easy peasy.

A lot of the time we don't scrub down during baths, he just gets to play in the water for the routine.
  • We don't have a routine. I have 2 older kids and we just go with the flow. If we are home bed by 7:30 if not we just do whatever. He sleeps from 7-5:30 Was 6:30 till the time change
  • This is the routine with both kids

    7:00 Dinner with the family
    8:00 Clean up toys (DS)
8:30 Get into Pajamas and brush teeth
    8:45 Story and Song
    9:00 Lights out

I will either nurse Carlene right before dinner or right before she goes to sleep, so that part of the routine varies.

We try to get them in bed a bit before this, but DS is 3 and has a toddler's knack for dragging things out.
