Pen exploded in dryer! Help please!

I put my husbands work clothes to wash today and didn't see that he had left a pen in one of his pockets. It went through the dryer too. Now the dryer has blue ink stains all over. I read that nail polish remover gets rid of the stains. I tried that, and a few came out. Some are being really stubborn. Anyone have any tips for getting the stubborn ones out? And if I put more clothes in the dryer will the ink stain those too? Thanks in advance!

  • Paint thinner, then clean it well after.
  • Loading the player...
  • Straight up rubbing alcohol. I use it all the time!

  • We have had the same issue with crayon. Goo Gone works, Magic Eraser may work (we had limited success with this one), and WD-40 works.

Be extremely careful if you use WD-40 because it is flammable so you have to then make sure you clean all of it out of the dryer. We only used it on a few spots where the crayon had gotten lodged and really melted into the drum.

We also ran a load of just old towels through the dryer before any other loads just to make sure it had really come clean. But like I said we had busted up crayon bits that had lodged in so e crevices. Your situation may not be as bad.

It is a huge PITA to clean out - I am sorry this happened to you.

  • Thanks all! I got out as many spots as I could. I will run some old towels through to make sure they won't stain.
