First Name Not Quite "Flowing" With MN

Hello ladies of the Baby Names Board! I am a FTM at almost 22 weeks with a baby girl :) from the beginning my SO and i have not agreed on many names put aftmier pouring over countless names on NameBerry we FINALLY found one that we both fell in love with.

Adelynn (the spelling of which is still being decided upon since there are 373748382 ways that you can spell it lol)

Now the middle name was already set and is not changeable and is Ellen which is a family name.

Anyway when you say the names together i don't think they sound terrible but they def don't flow together as well as i would have liked but again they don't sound terrible... or am i just delusional and it really does sound horrible? Lol

So we are both so in love with the name that im about 70% sure i will be able to live with it not being perfect sounding. So basically my question is do these names sound at least ok together? And also personally would you be able able to live with the non flowyness of a name if you both loved the name so much?

Thanks Guys! :-)

  • How about Adeline Elaine? Or as PP suggested Adelaide Ellen.

Meh i expected a no go on this one which is sad cuz we really love the name but im not willing to change Ellen. It was my grandmother's MN that passed away so i would rather change the first name than give up Ellen lol well the other names we liked were Riley and Henley both of which i know go better with Ellen but i feel like have both become a little popular and/or trendy right now. Maybe not?

    @dreadpiratebuttercup‌ hmm Adelaide i think i do like but i have a feeling he won't :/

  • We ended up doing that for our firstborn. The middle name was set, and the only name we could agree on didn't flow. We just decided to live with it. I don't regret it.

  • I don't think that they sound horrible together, but i personally wouldn't pair them together (flow is very important for me). Agreed that Riley and Henley are bad for a girl. You've gotten lots of good suggestions so far, let me see if I can add some as well!

    Abigail Ellen
    Emmaline Ellen
    Casey Ellen
    Courtney Ellen

  • I know an Evelyn Ellen and most people don't even know her first and middle name, so it's never been an issue.

  • @JMU_Bride09 yea I actually really like most of the ones that you have suggested. Harper was one of my very first choices before we even knew that it was a girl but had since let it go. But I might try to bring that up again with him. I suggested Abigail last night and that name actually sparked something as well lol so we will see

@dreadpiratebuttercup ha when I first read your list I read Madeline as Mad-uh-LYNN and immediately we both loved it. Then quickly realized that that was no different than the situation we have with Adalynn and for some reason neither of us like the pronunciation you suggested :/ which really doesn't make much sense considering that it is not much different!

@caraluvs if you don't mind sharing, what is the name? If you do mind I understand.

  • Agree with PPs, spelled "Adeline" it can be pronounced "add-uh-leen" Ellen or "add-uh-line" Ellen and sound lovely. I think it's only awkward if it's pronounced "add-uh-linn."

  • You are on the trendy train with Adelynn, Riley, and Henley. Ellen is a beautiful mn and is meaningful. I would keep that, and start over with your fn search. PPs had a great suggestion of Adelaide. Other suggestions: Josephine Ellen, Caroline Ellen, Abigail Ellen.
  • Normally I would say if you loving a name is the nost important thing, but I just couldn't do that combination. I like Adeline or Madeline (Line sounding ending). I also really really REALLY hate Henley (isn't that a type of shirt at the GAP?) and Riley on a girl. Here are some random but beautiful names, Clementine, Rosalie, Juniper, Audra, Colette, Camille, Vivienne, Juliet, Penelope.

  • You all have been really helpful, I really appreciate it. I think we have it narrowed down right now to Abigail and Harper. Harper is my number one and right now he just likes it but doesn't love it...yet! But its a start lol But with Adalynn he just liked the name at first but then ended up loving it so im trying to bring it around to hopefully loving it! lol Harper was actually one of my original names I liked at the very beginning but for some reason had let it go. Oh boy this is hard guise!! haha

Actually, I don't think Madelyn Ellen is as bad as Adelynn Ellen. The "M" sound helps quite a bit, IMO.

  • @Spin313‌ you know your right about that actually. I didn't realize that! I'm gonna have to bring that up with him cuz we def like Madelyn pronounced LYNN but we both didn't like it pronounced LINE . Weird how that is lol just a small change totally changes it.
