overnight

Who has spent one or more nights away from their LO?  How did it go for them?  How did it go for you?

My inlaws are coming to stay at our house in a couple weeks so LO can keep her routine while MH and I go out for a concert and then we're staying the night at the hotel/casino where the concert is at.  LO is a very good baby and bedtime is usually pretty easy, but I expect some fussiness since it will be Nana putting her to bed instead of me.  They'll be with her from about 4pm until about noon the next day.

I'm working on the list of her routine, and I am trying to decide if what I have so far is helpful, or crazy woman.  Or should I not care that I might sound like a crazy woman as long as I am comfortable for the first time we leave her overnight?  Here is what I have so far

-half jar baby food and 6 ounce bottle at 4pm

-Nap after bottle.  She’ll likely sleep at least 30 minutes but no more than an hour

-Start bedtime between 7:15 and 7:45pm

-PJ’s and overnight diaper

-4 ounce bottle.  She can have 6 if she wants it but usually only wants 4

- Rock her after bottle with lamp on.  Ceiling fan on low and projector and music on

-You can rock her to sleep, or just put her in her crib with a paci.  She likes to watch her mobile so crank that up once and leave the room with the door shut and she’ll usually fall asleep within minutes.

-Ryan keeps the house at 74, if that’s too hot for you feel free to lower it.  If you do, you can put her in a sleep sack in addition to her jammies, but at 74 she’s warm enough in just her jammies.  No blankets or stuffed animals please.

-6 ounce bottle (or 8 if she only had 4 at bedtime) around midnight.  She usually mostly sleeps through it and goes back to bed very easily.  She shouldn’t need a diaper change till morning

-6 ounce bottle whenever she wakes up, usually between 6am and 8am.  She usually plays in her jumper when she first gets up but she’ll love whatever you want to do with her.

We’ll be home around noon :)

I think it is helpful I made a list of the girls routine when they stayed at my mils for the night, you just have to understand it might no go the way you want and she might do something's a bit different from you but as long as LO is safe and happy all will be ok!

Not crazy! Like others have said, just don't be surprised if it changes while you aren't there. But I always feel better when I've left plenty of directions... At lease I've done my part. :)

I left MIL a note for DS1 the first time she stayed to care for him.
I told her about it, showed her where it was, gave her a brief overview.
    She never read it.
    He survived.

She complained that some things she tried didn't work. After that, she read the notes I left.

Leave the note with as much detail as you think may be needed.
    Good luck and have fun!!

I agree that your note as listed sounds helpful and not crazy :) If it were me, I would appreciate having an outline of her routine so I know in general what to expect.

It's a helpful list. It's not too crazy detailed, but let's nana know her general routine. Just remember the routine might not be the same, but lo will be well taken care of. Enjoy your night out!

I think it sounds very helpful.  My baby is not an easy baby, so when I leave stuff like that for people I have backups for those omigoditsnotworking moments.  Back up food choices, what to do if the nap doesn't happen, etc.

Thank you all! I feel much better about leaving her and glad to know my list doesn't sound crazy.

LO will be having her first sleep over at her grandmother's next weekend! It is my birthday and hubby and I are planning a much needed date night (haven't had one since early June). We are dropping her off, going to the movies (free tickets from his work), going to dinner ($75 in gift cards), then going home to try enjoy ONE NIGHT of not having to get up to feed & change baby. We will pick her up the next morning after we enjoy a warm cup of coffee together and maybe some breakfast.

Of course I will miss Sage but we really, REALLY need this and I know she's in good hands with my MIL.

    Can. Not. Wait.
