It's the most wonderful time of the year

I was hella bored at work today, and shanelessly using the interwebs. Of course got an email from Toys R Us about their Big Toy Book this Christmas. And most of what I saw lacks anything for a baby 3-4 months around Christmas or the other holidays. I'm a FTM and have little experience with gifts for babies at Christmas/holiday times except for clothes.

Just wondering if any STM or other FTM have ideas for presents.

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year

  • FTM here and had the same question. Luckily my sister put together an Amazon wishlist for me of things her baby loved/needed at 3/4 months. I was also browsing Amazon and you can filter toys by age range so I found a few developmental toys that got great reviews (they were also on her list) so that might be a good place to start! Things like a mirror for tummy time, Freddie the Firefly, as some tactile books that LO can touch and chew on. Looking forward to more ideas!

  • I'm making LO a crochet stuffed giraffe, and maybe a few rattles, and/or teethers. We may get her a few clothes too.
  • For DS, I'm making him Captain Barnacles from The Octonauts, buying him a kids tool belt and I want to get him a pair of Paw Patrol shoes that I saw on Ebay.
  • DD1 was about 6 months at Christmas, but we got here a jumperoo thing, whatever its called. She loved it. Se would jump in it until she fell asleep!! Lol she didn't seem one bit interested in the toys on it, but it had music that would play if she jumped or did certain things, she really liked that part.
I went to Walmart and in the baby part of the toy dept most all the toys have age ranges on them, and will say what they target developmentally. One silly thing she loved was this hammer that makes little noises when she shook it, she still plays with it! I think fisher price made it.
I got her some jammies in bigger sizes too, we ended up with some clothes, but most people didnt think to get her jammies.
  • We will be doing jammies, and a few toys that are for when he's a little older just because he probably won't be too interested then at a little over 2 months. I've seen where parents do first Christmas ornaments and keepsakes for small babies also.
  • We have to have Santa come for DD2 to keep appearances up for DD1. We're going to get her a couple outfits, a couple board books, etc. Honestly, if it wasn't for "Santa," we wouldn't do gifts for DD2.

  • DD was a september baby too so she was just 4 mo old at Christmas, she got diapers and wipes, for a FTM it's the best gift ever! She also got teethers, rattles, and some gifts were for an older age like 6-12 months. I assume DS will most likely get the same. I always like that other people get them toys or clothes to grow into bc you always get so many things when they are born that are good for the first three or maybe six months, they get more expensive the older they get.
  • My dd was almost 9 months when her first Christmas came around. We did some clothes, books, and little stuff. We did start a college fund for her also. We put money in, and then her great grandparents gave her money that we also put in.
Then my mom got her a car seat. It was early but it was so nice to have when we needed it. My mom said she would probably go ahead and do the same for ds since I will have two in car seats before I know it.

  • I'm leaning toward the idea of toys for DS in an older age. The college fund idea is really awesome! And of course both grandparents just emailed me about ideas for him today! I'm so excited for this holiday season even though he's so little it's just fun knowing it's his first Christmas!
  • I am getting a bunch of the finger food items. Like the gerber puffs and cheese stick things. Those will be wrapped for DD. Also clothes. Otherwise I will tell DS that since she is a baby Santa didn't get her much. If it weren't for DS I wouldn't get anything.

  • nothing... we're getting her nothing specifically for Christmas... lol no need to get her presents at this age. We'll continue to buy what we need for her as we go.

  • 3rd time mom here and have never bought my babies gifts for Christmas. They have no idea and will not remember. I did do a baby stocking though!
  • @ashaw512 I love this idea!! DD1 is only 16 months, but I could still do this just for my own amusement!! Lol

DD was 16 months old when I started it, only bc she was getting a lot more active and started getting excited about getting things. She loved the little mermaid so I did mermaid pajamas and a Christmas princess book. The fruit snacks were princess too but I haven't been able to find them anymore. Oh and I put her a princess cup in there that had the little mermaid on it for her chocolate milk. I think she will be as to enjoy it more this yr and it's fun for all ages. I told my mom about it, she's going through a divorce right now and it's hard on my little brother, he will be 12 next week. So she's doing baseball box with him for Christmas. I'm also did a mom and dad box for DH and I last year after DD went to bed. It's basically the same thing- pajama pants, Christmas movie, snacks, and hot chocolate, and a special something just for him (I had DDs handprints molded)
  • I'm planning to get DS a piggy bank and start it out with the money I'd ordinarily spend on him for the holiday.  He won't know the difference, and at some point he'll enjoy the money to spend as he chooses.  :)
