Updated our wheels-AW post

We knew when I got pregnant a new car was in our future. I drove a 2013 Mini Cooper and my husband had a 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Yesterday I traded the Mini for a 2014 Mazda CX-5. Even though the CX-5 is a small SUV it feels huge to me.

Who else upgraded their scoot scoots recently?

Here's a picture of the old and the new. This can be turned into a car related gif party if needed. :)

  • We are planning on buying a Saturn Outlook next month cause this is our fourth and we obviously need the room and I refuse to get a mini van.
  • My H totaled my Honda Accord in an ice storm last year so we bit the bullet and got a mini van. It's a hotel on wheels, I love that thing.

  • I went from a vw beetle (that I drove for 9 years) to a Kia soul. Definitely wanted a 4 door for when LO arrives. I love my new car, but I miss my little bug!
  • I'll probably miss the Mini once the newness wears off. But for now I'm in love. @juliaandpatrick

  • Nice! I had to upgrade as well... About a month ago, I traded in my Ford Mustang I had driven for years. We got a Jeep Grand Cherokee and although I miss my stang, it's nice driving a bigger vehicle with so much room!! I also love the higher vantage point, not as scary when I'm passing an 18 wheeler.

  • I'm planning to turn my CRV in for a mini van soon. Not excited about it, but with 3 kiddos in carseats, I think it's time.

We live in a big transit accessible city so we traded in a bus pass for our first car. We bought a new elantra. Subsequently it also ment that I at 29 got my learners drivers license. I have serious driving fear and hate doing it. I think i need to take lessons to deal with it.

Those new Hyundais are fancy! Hyundai and Kia are really stepping up their game. We looked at the Santa Fe but decided to go Mazda after I decided it was super cute and my husband did read all the safety reviews and crash tests. At least one of us checks, right?

  • Nice new wheels! I'll be trading in my car for an suv ( we are selling my car and a family member is donating their old suv to us) not sure what MH is going to do as he swears a car seat will fit in his tiny 2 door car- which it will not lol. Guess I'll deal with that when we get car seats and he can't live in denial anymore!

We looked into trying to keep the Mini because the added cost of a bigger vehicle. Everything I saw online said to put the car seat behind the passenger, fold down the seat next to it and get the baby in and out through the back hatch. I didn't want to deal with that. I felt safe in the Mini, but the back seat is tiny and I wouldn't feel safe with a baby back there everyday. Good luck with your husbands two door car! I know people who have done it.

  • Great cars! Since I'm pregnant with my first, I'm going to keep my mustang for a while. My DH has a big sedan I can use occasionally when needed.
  • I just got a 2013 honda civic last year but with DS being 9 when this one is born I think there will be plenty of room. I have always wanted an suv but they are too pricey.
  • This past Tuesday we traded in my Honda Civic for the Subaru Crosstrek. The Honda was almost 7 years old and had a lot of miles. She was a really good car while we had her, but we had been talking about a small SUV for the past year and finally made the plunge!
  • I went from a 2002 mustang to a 2014 Durango citadel. I feel like I'm driving a bus compared to my mustang! It was definitely a much needed upgrade, I had my mustang since my senior year of high school in 2006! Sorry for the sideways pic, I'm mobile right now.

Congrats on the new wheels. So exciting!
  • We traded in my 2010 Scion TC for a 2013 Ford Edge (brand new - had 100 miles on it) - I miss my Scion and cried when we traded it in. DH couldn't understand why I was crying over my old car when I was getting a brand new one. :(
I was even more bummed because I only had a little bit more to pay on the car. image

  • Congrats on the new ride! We traded in right before DS was born when we realized DS couldn't put the seat back in my BMW X3 once the car seat was in and he was driving. We got a Toyota Highlander and I adore it! It's still going to be so roomy even after putting car seat number two in. It was such a good move for us!

  • I drive a 2009 Jeep Patriot and DH drove a 2 door Honda Civic hatchback for the first 2 years of DD's life. It worked for the first year because I did all daycare dropoff and pickup. Since we moved, he does drop off. He lasted a year and finally upgraded about a month ago to a 2009? Chrysler Pacifica. That's our main car now, as there is very little room in the passenger seat of my Jeep with DD rear facing.

I have been driving for 15 years + and navigating downtown Toronto is still a freaking mission!! Get lessons for sure. It's just so much craziness and those cabbies .. Uggg I have so many choice words.
  • Time for me to upgrade also. We will probably keep my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee (120K miles) for my husband as he has a two seater and I will get a new SUV, not sure which one yet. I've never had a brand new car before and I am a little bit daunted by the prospect of it!
  • This is Big Kermie, my Rav4 that I've been leasing. I adore it but my fiancé wants to get the most indestructible and ginormous monster out there. This is of course while he wants to get a sporty toy for himself- I don't think it's an argument I'll win...image

Congrats on the new car, to OP & all the other mamas

I've been driving daily since 16, and silly me gets a car rental when visiting cities with great public transportation cuz I just forget how much more convenient and reliable the metro can be. I guess it's a Los Angeles thing,. Outside home & work, we spend the most time in our cars.

DH upgraded me to a large sedan last Christians. It felt like a limo, but now I'm glad for the backseat space and awesome safety rating. We also have a Toyota 4-runner, so plenty of room to grow.

    Congrats!

I'm going to upgrade soon, but probably not until after this baby. I drive a Nissan X-terra, which is awesome, but isn't quite big enough for us. Mostly because of our dogs. Yes, I'm going to get a new car once our new dog kids come. I'm a dork. We had 3 dogs until recently (just lost our sweet mastiff boy). We're going to be getting a pair of mastiffs in the near future and my X-Terra isn't big enough for 2 adults, 1 kid in a car seat and 4 dogs. I'm looking at a Yukon.

H drives a big ass 4 door truck, so he's okay if the smaller dogs and one human are in front and the big dogs and baby are in the back seat.

DH still doesn't have his learners permit, we have to get that soon for him. We discussed it last night actually. He has never learned to drive(he's 34 now). He was in a few car accidents as a kid and one as a teen, obviously never the driver, but it's caused him serious anxiety about driving. While we have a great transit system where we live, it's not something either of us are really wanting to rely on with an infant or toddler in tow, so he'll learn to drive just in case. He also doesn't want me "driving like a maniac to the hospital while you're screaming in labor! That just doesn't sound fun" to him..... not even kidding. Pretty sure he thinks this will be like the worst movie labor ever filmed.

My husband told me I have to run this one into the ground and then some before I can get a new one. Which is fine. If I had a four door car we wouldn't have upgraded at all since this is our first. I had a 2012 Honda Civic that I loved, but wrecked and impulsed bought the Mini. Worst decision ever.

  • I recently bought a chevy cruze. But now my hubby thinks we went too small.
  • I'm hoping to get a Chevy Tahoe !! I don't feel safe in my little Prius anymore !
  • I might be joining you ladies in the car shopping here soon. We just bought a house and close on the 14th but this morning hubby's car wouldn't start even with a new battery/alternator. It's been giving us problems for months now and he's been eyeing the new Honda Civic.
  • Congrats on the new ride!  We're going to look this afternoon.  I'm actually doing the opposite as everyone else.  Dare I say downsizing?  I have a Saturn vue, DH has a silverado truck with a cap so we do the majority of traveling in that.  It's easy to put the dogs in back with all of our things.  We will use whatever sedan we get for tooling around town when we don't have the dogs.  Sounds backwards, but we want to decrease our monthly car payments so downsizing it is! For us, it's better to have one large vehicle than two larger ones with larger payments.

  • We upgraded in June. We probably would have held on to my car longer, but it had some maintenance issues that couldn't be fixed. Goodbye 2000 Sunfire (I cried, had that car since I was 17!), hello 2014 Subaru Crosstrek! I love it!

Won't be getting a new car for DH. We had to do that about two years ago right after we bought our house. Yikes!

  • I will hop on the love my minivan train.  I drove a 2009 Chevy Traverse until about 2 months ago.  We traded in for a 2011 AWD Toyota Sienna Limited.  What's not to love about a vehicle with automatic doors, entertainment system, and a middle row with reclining seats with footrest?

    Enjoy your new vehicle!
