Naps

my lo is 7 weeks old and has been a pretty good mapper up until the last couple of weeks. We started putting him in his crib for naps at about 1 month old and he did really well! This past week when we put him in his crib for a nap he wakes up in like 10 min. He isn't napping very well in his RNP either. The only time he will take a long nap is when he is in his car seat if he has fallen asleep on a car ride. He will fight taking a nap all together sometimes and then gets himself all worked up and that makes it ten times harder to get him to sleep. Anyone else have a similar situation?

Re: Naps

  • Yes my LO is now 8 weeks old and has been doing the same thing. Every day seems to change as to what works to get him down for a nap. It's very frustrating and I hour this poise passes soon.

  • It has been like that for my LO for the past two weeks. It seems like he takes longer naps on the weekends when I really don't mind him being awake...but on the weekdays he chooses to stay up when I really want him to sleep. (Go Figure) His naps are about 20 - 30 minutes every three to four hours. At this point I kinda got used to it. If that is how he wants to sleep then thats fine. I normally don't put him in his crib for naps...I usually put him in his mamaroo, hoping that the rocking my help keep him asleep longer, but it doesn't work. I would like to keep him in his crib for naps, but that is where I do my work so I worry that the noise will keep him up.

Plus I really can't complain too much because he does sleep for the most part at night. I put him to bed around 8:30 (which I am starting to think may be too early) and he wakes up around 3 for his MOTN feedings and then goes right to bed for a couple more hours.

I am hoping its just a growth spurt and maybe he will start going back to longer naps. If not, well at least he is starting to keep himself somewhat entertained on his own, so I don't have to hold him all day.

This is exactly what's going on at our house. He will take super long naps on the weekend but is terrible at napping during the week. Hopefully this will pass soon! Glad it's not just my little guy.
  • This was my day yesterday my lo is 8 weeks tomorrow. Today she has been doing much better. We were up a lot last night though. I think it's the age;) I put my daughter in the moby wrap where she fell asleep then I put her on her tummy and she slept 3 hours. I know they say don't do that but she naps best that way!
  • My LO is almost 8 weeks old and he only takes short naps in the day. He won't really sleep for more than hour except for one long stretch during the day.
  • I feel you there. I call my LO the anti napper. It's sheer luck to get her to sleep anywhere on her own. She takes a bunch of cat naps after she eats or if she's in a moving car seat (or she cries!) She's 9 weeks today so I'm hoping she's going through a leap now

  • It would be nice to be able to get things done during the day while ds naps. When he sleeps good at night it makes not napping for long during the day a bit more tolerable but when you combine lack of sleep from the night before and no naps during the day it makes for one tired and cranky baby and one overwhelmed and exhausted mama. Hopefully our lo's will be over this soon!
  • My DS has days he naps a lot and says he doesn't. He is 9 weeks today. Lately he has just been doing short 20-30 min naps. The days he does a 2 hour one don't happen often but are great when they do!

  • My LO will take about 3 naps during the day - 2 for about 30/45 minutes and 1 for an hour or more. I have to decide whether to eat, sleep, or get stuff done. I usually just want to sleep!!!
  • My little one is 6 weeks and is doing the same thing! She sleeps in her crib at night just fine (3 hours between feedings she's EBF) but during the day no naps in the crib, only on me or in the swing. And for maybe 30 min if I'm lucky! At least I'm not the only one! Good luck mommas!
  • Same as above for me! 7 weeks today and will only nap in someone's arms or the swing if I'm lucky. Every once in a while we get a little over an hour for a nap but usually it's 30-45 minutes, sometimes less.
