Feeling Overwhelmed!

So I went in for my 6 week pregnancy confirmation scan after a m/c in Feb and not getting the clearance to try again in July and the US tech said that she had three heartbeats and that one of them wasn't mine.  Of course my husband was out of town so I told him over the phone and I went right into panic mode of how to afford and care for 3 babies + my 5 year old.

Feeling overwhelmed still at 14 weeks today b/c I spent about 2 hours last night going through finances, etc trying to figure out what we could cut and how we could afford either a nanny or full time care for the 3 babies and realized that with the bills we have right now we have less than $1000 available to baby care. I never thought in a million years that I would be a mom to triplets. I work full time and hopefully will be able to work from home while on bed rest and after the babies are born for a while. My husband works full time, in paramedic school all day on Saturdays and does 12 hour of clinicals overnight on Saturday or all day Sunday pending where he is working and we have no support system since we moved 2 summers ago.

Again just feeling very overwhelmed and looking for ideas, etc.

Thanks

Jen

Re: Feeling Overwhelmed!

  • Thanks! I would love to be a SAHM but I make about double what my husband makes so it just doesn't make sense for me, not to mention I LOVE my career.  Never thought in a million years I would be told I am having triplets.

  • If you have room in your house, you might consider hiring an au pair. You pay a fee to the agency upfront (usually $5-8K) and then the Au Pair gets room and board plus a stipend of about $200 per week. If you can stomach the agency fee, and if you have the room, it's an affordable option. Feel free to PM me if you want more info. Good luck and congratulations!

  • Do you have any family who can help? Maybe someone who could move in for a while? Do you have  a support system of friends, neighbors, or church members who could organize a rotation to come help you out? It sounds like you will need help overnight and weekends in addition to during the week when you will need to work. I didn't need to work, but I did need a lot of help the first few weeks and the ladies in my church organized a service for me where someone would come over for a few hours a day  M-F to help me with the babies and give me a chance to nap and shower.

^ The au pair sounds like a great option.

Good luck to you. That is a lot on your plate.

Congrats on the babies though! It is overwhelming but you will find a way to make it work. Hang in there.

Wait - you had a heart beat check at 6 weeks and they found 3, and at 14 weeks you haven't had an ultrasound? I don't know where you are but I am surprised they don't find it necessary to check to make sure the heart beat check was correct and are not offering more monitoring for a possible triplet pregnancy.

(I just saw that you had an ultrasound, not heartbeat check, at 6 weeks - though yeah I would try to get in for another US soon!!!)

That said, I don't want to discount your worries - I was near puking for weeks after finding out we were having twins, and would break down in tears every so often because I was so worried and panicked. You get by and the generosity of others will surprise you. The Au Pair idea is fantastic.

  • Triplets wow! Congrats! Au pair sounds like a great idea. Or find someone young that you trust. I nannied for my nephew one summer. I was 18. My brother and sister in law paid me $150 a week. It wasn't much at all looking back, but it was my nephew! And they fed me of course haha. And I lived there obviously but I would leave on weekends to visit friends. Good luck!
