Trouble TTC a Sibling

lurker with a question

To go or not to go that is the question.

I am 24. We stopped using contraceptives 12 months ago but actually started trying about 8 months ago. I know you have to be trying for a year before you go to an re. I have always had an extremly regular 30 day cycle that lasted 3-4 days. The last three months my cycle has been almost non existent. If it weren't for my cramps I may not have even known I had even started. I would have almost been ok just wiping when I went to the bathoom. It was more like spotting thsn anything else.

Since I have always been so regular it concerns me that there is such a change. Would it be pointless to go see a gynecologist? Should I just wait it out a few more months and go to an re after a full 12 months of trying?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Re: lurker with a question

  • I would start with your OBGYN now if possible. Most insurance require a referral to an RE anyway. They can do some basic blood work to get you started sooner.
7 months after going off bc my periods got further and further apart. My OB gave me meds that regulated my cycle

  • Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking. Just to add I haven't been on birth control since 2010.

  • I agree. Go to your OBGYN. What your describing sounds like spotting, not a period. If you've gone that long without a real period, your doc can give you meds to get it started again. Like PP said, they can also do some blood work to try to see what's going on. Just be wary if they want to give you Clomid. OBGYNs give it out like candy but don't monitor you properly (usually). Just ask for a referral to a RE. Good luck!

  • I would definitely go see a doctor.

  • Yes,
I have tested each month. Made an appointment for this coming week. Hopefully things will get back to "normal" shortly.
