NBR: recommend your vacuum/ steam cleaner

Alright ladies, I need recs for a lightweight vacuum good for little boys and dogs. The one we have now is fine, but is so heavy that I don't vacuum frequently enough for my LO to be rolling all over the carpet. And I hate doing the stairs the most-- it's back breaking.

Also, if you have a reasonably priced steam cleaner for hardwood/laminate floors I'll take that info as well. Most of our house is carpeted so I don't want to spend a ton on it.

Re: NBR: recommend your vacuum/ steam cleaner

  • I just bought the Shark Rotator. I have carpet and hard wood floors so I like that I can go from one to the other without changing attachments. It has just as good, if not better reviews than the Dyson. I don't know how it's going to hold up in the long term, but so far I like it.

We have 2 beagles who shed like crazy, so I clean the floors and sofas at least once a week, sometimes twice. This one is nice and light so it's not a big ordeal to drag it out.

  • We caved and bought a Dyson last year after having gone through SO MANY vacuum cleaners. Expensive but worth it.

Also have the Shark steam mop. I think all Shark products are garbage - ours have never lasted long.

Thanks LB, but we have a shark now. Not only is it heavy, the stair attachment broke after like 3 uses. I think I got a dud.

I do like how it goes from carpet to hardwood easily and is bagless.

I am eyeing a dyson, but not sure which model to get if so.

Do you like your steam mop though?

No. I never use it. I just don't feel like it actually cleans. We got the Dyson animal - the small canister model and I'm very happy with it.
  • I got the dyson animal cordless. I love it! We also have a shark steam mop. The dyson does a great job but only lasts 20 minutes on the regular setting or 6 minutes on the super sucker setting. We only have a 1400sqft house so I can actually do most of it in the 6 minutes before it needs recharged.

Love my dyson. Not sure what dh uses for streaming the floor though. But we need a new steam cleaner for the carpets. Ours finally bit the dust.

    Edit for understanding

Dyson Animal. Keep your eye out for a Black Friday or Woot deal.

We have the shark steam mop. I use it on tile/laminate. I can't speak to hard wood.

  • I'm a bissel fan all the way... The lift off vacuum is the shit. I have put it through so much and it's still working like a champ.
