Amy, or anyone with experience, I need help. I am dealing with my 4th round of mastitis. You'd think I'd be a pro by now. Usually my pain and clogs clear within a day or two of starting antibiotics. I'm on Day 3 and still experiencing significant pain and hardness. I'm worried that I may need to see a doctor (breast specialist) to see what's going on. It's Friday- do I try to get in today or wait over the weekend? This is a horrible time at work for me to be sick.
Another problem is that I'm down to feeding only 3 times a day. I have added an extra pumping session to drain the breast more often, but I don't want to pump every 2-3 hours because it took me a long time and a lot of pain to get down to nursing just 3x daily. Do I really really need to pump so frequently to get rid of this, even though I was only breastfeeding first thing AM, after work, and then for bed?
How long is it safe to wait with a clog? Like I said, this is day 3. I have tried every trick in the book including lecithin and cabbage leaves, dangle feeding, hot wet compresses, hand expressing in the shower, vibration... etc... I was getting puss (Sorry, disgusting) but am no longer getting puss out. I don't know if that means the puss is clear or that I've just gotten all I can.
Re: @AmyG* - Need help with mastitis
My doc says he wants to refer me to a breast specialist.
I will say I made progress last night with warm compresses and massage. Breast is mainly soft now but still very tender. Could it just be tender from all the squeezing we've been doing on it? Or does the pain indicate a clog still exists?
