I agree. As I said earlier today, I'm thinking about investing in a better quality bag so that it lasts longer. If I go through with it, it would probably be something from an outlet, and also be a classic design so that it doesn't go out of style. I think in this sense, it could be more economical than buying lesser quality bags, beating them up, and then needing new ones every season. If I add up what I bought every season, it would probably only be a little bit more to buy one great quality bag that I'll have for years.
I think I'm talking myself into going to the outlets on black Friday....hm....
::sits on the non designer purse couch:: I have no designer bags. Uhhh, I think the most I paid for a purse is like 30 bucks. And that was probably too much for me. I'm not a purse person. Half the time I don't carry it and I shove my money and cards in my pants. So there's no big need for me.
My diaper bag, however, was kinda pricy. But I assume I'll be using it a lot.

I personally don't have any because there are other things I like to spend my fun money on, but I also don't think they're a waste of money. As long as it's not super trendy and you'll love it for a long time I think it's worth it to spend more money on something that is well-made.
I hate spending lots of money on a single item. There was only one purse ever I spent a lot on and it was a Guess leather fringe purse that was like $230 in the stores. But I comparison shopped for weeks, used a coupon and wound up getting it somewhere else for like $145. That's the only expensive purse I own.
ETA: Oops, just remembered it was Lucky Brand not Guess. See, that's how much I care about the brand name haha. I just got it cause it was super cute!
I usually buy my purses at TJMaxx or somewhere like that. I like simple and I like quality. I'm not a fan of advertising brands all over my body, so I avoid anything that has logos slapped all over it.

This is funny because I'm trying to find a diaper bag that's really inexpensive
As for the purse thing, I'm looking specifically for something for work purposes. I always try and look really professional. Clothing-wise I do ok, but bag-wise, not always.
If their are any markings on a bag, like the gaudy C's all over Coach, I won't carry it. I have never actually purchased a name brand bag, but have been gifted several. If they don't "advertise" their brand, then I'll carry it., otherwise I'm out.
I have like 2 coach purses and a coach diaper bag all were bought from coach outlet before DD was born and I became a sahm. Now a days I just like to admire them and wish I could afford new ones! Happy I bought my diaper bag when I did I plan to use it with DD 2 after 3 years it still looks brand new!
I've got a few LV pieces. My husband and I have been married for over 10 years. We don't buy each other gifts for Christmas, valentine's, anniversary, or birthdays. We went to Vegas 2 years ago and he took me into LV and I got to pick out what I wanted. :x It was a "thanks for all the years, you've survived multiple deployments, happy birthday, merry Christmas, and I just love you" gift. I picked up a few smaller pieces of LV since then.
It's Def. Not something we can afford all the time though.
My experience has been you get what you pay for in this department. I've had plenty of cheap purses that fell apart. I have a Coach one now, and it's 4 years old, but looks brand new, and I use it every day. I'm totally find paying more for a purse that I'll use every day for several years.
SS because I do buy expensive-ish bags (around $150), but I only ever have one and I use it for years. My last one was from Clark's and I just finally replaced it (after 8 years) with one by Rebecca Minkoff. I'm really, really picky about my purses and have found that I prefer the looks of more expensive brands like Kate Spade.
I love kate spade. I'm a huge fan of the jewelry too. I may stalk that website.
I do love the look of Kate Spade's purses, but I can't bring myself to buy one. But my mom is an addict and keeps buying them, so I borrow hers on occasion to match certain outfits.

ETA: I bought the Minkoff on super sale at Nordstrom and it looks like this. I love it so hard.

Oh and also, my friend got a really nice Coach leather bag in a light tan. It got super dirty and she was really upset about it - she felt it should have stayed in better shape. She brought it in to the store and they replaced it for her! She chose a darker grey and this one has held up really really well. It's nice they did that.
I chose SS. I love them but haven't bought one since DS arrived in our lives. I find it hard to justify the expense. On a positive note all of my Coach purses from before DS have held up really well and I can still use all of them
When I was in my late teens/early 20's, I would buy Dooney & Bourke purses- u know, the colorful ones with hearts... stars ... bright colors. But notsomuch nowadays. I do have a pink coach purse (plain pink, no C's plastered all over) that was gifted to me and a plain black leather coach hobo that I bought myself MOONS ago. Once my $400 black purse came in the mail and I was taking all of the stuffing out, I found a tag that said "made in china".... and I kind of lost interest. I know many, many things I use and appreciate are made in China, but I just wasn't expecting that.
I used to be really into coach bags, and I still have 1 or 2, but I've donated the rest because I don't really like carrying around the big "C" purses. I do have a simple black leather coach brief case that was definitely not cheap but is extra sharp.... All that being said, I'm getting a big fat Tory Burch tote for my push present to haul my breast pump around in.
My last purse was all black and I used it for 5 years. I'm not a big spender when it comes to carrying my stuff around.
I do have one purse I've spent quite a bit on. I bought it in Argentina on a vacation (My SIL got married there), the leather was hand cut and the purse was hand sewn in the little shop below the apartment we stayed in while there. It was the only time I could justify spending that amount of money on a purse. I used it for a few months before it started to get dirty, and it's been sitting in my closet ever since.

I've never bought a designer bag but my MIL brought me back a beautiful, simple blue leather bag from Italy last summer. I've used it every day and it still looks brand new. I love it! I may have to buy a good quality bag next time... I think she's ruined me haha
I've never bought one of those top name ones ( I'll get a fossil or sak Occasionally as a present from DH) but I do some editing for my aunt who loves them. So, as payment, she'll send me the ones she doesn't use in their own cute little bags. I would never carry one with the brand pasted all over it though. My favorite is a Kate Spade cognac leather smooth bag with the little feet. My husband did buy me a pair of boots, however, that are now the most expensive article of clothing I own. I was mad at first, but I love them and get compliments all the time. They better last til this LO graduates.
In the last ten years, I've only ever bought two bags. One is a LV speedy that I used for 8/10 years and the other is a black Marc Jacobs bag. I figure, most of the time, you get what you pay for and they've been nothing but good to me in terms of wear and tear.
If I find a good quality handbag and am in need of a good quality handbag and said handbag is not full of obnoxious logos and shameless advertising and is in a most reasonable price range, I won't mind that the bag is designer. But in general I am prejudiced against designer almost anything.
I'm a member of the "I have 1 or 2" but through the years I've had more than that. But that's because I find them at consignment shops. Some of them you can get for super cheap and they look brand spanking new! I have yet to buy one brand new for full price.
I don't get it. Expensive handbags have never appealed to me. I remember in high school my best friend would get a new D&B purse every season and I always wondered why a 16 year old needed something so expensive just to carry around her Wet Seal frequent buyer's card, Bonne Belle lip gloss and some Mentos.
The most expensive bag I've owned is a Fossil cross-body hobo style bag in a neutral camel color that I've used for a couple years now. I don't change purses based on my outfits. If I have a fancy event to attend, like a wedding, I forgo the purse and make my husband carry my phone and lipstick in his pocket.
Truth is that DH is in the biz so I've been fortunate enough to have a steady supply of high end handbags and accessories at cost or less. If I didn't have that bit of luck I would not spend more than about $40 on a bag.
I've got a black purse from Target that I got ~10 years ago. I use it about 2 times/year. I generally have a cheap satchel type bag that I get ~4-5 years out of for going out and I actually carry my Jansport backpack to work each day. It is ~16 years old and I had them fix once, since they have a lifetime warrenty, and it is really comfortable. I'm just not into having a bag for occasions or that looks trendy (or I guess even classic looking) because it just isn't important to me.
I have 3; coach purses and a wristlet, all with the big C's all over. They were all gifts and I love them. That's probably my UO. My favorite is an obnoxiously bright one. It reminds me of Lisa Frank and makes me happy.
I have A LOT of designer bags ranging from Coach to Louis Vuitton & love them all. While I love designer bags, I hate spending money on them so most of mine were gifted or inherited. The 2 I bought for myself is a Kate Spade I got during an online 75% sale after receiving my first bonus at work and a Tory Burch on clearance at Nordstrom Rack.
I once bought a coach wallet because it was on clearance. I think I paid $25 for it. It was a really nice wallet though! And it did last a long time! I'd buy another on clearance, but only on clearance. Haha.
I want one or two... bought a knockoff Coach in Dubai. It fell apart pretty quickly. I have a 31 bag that took its place and is holding up well. I use my purses til they need replacing usually and have gotten some fun out of the way ones. My last purse I found in Dublin at the Guiness brewery gift shop, loved it for years!!!! :-) ETA: words are hard...

I'm good with $20-$30 bags!
