  • With DS, we told them at Christmas. We gave them a "grandma & grandpa" Christmas card.

With this baby, we put DS in a "Big Brother" t-shirt.

  • We are going to Disney tomorrow and getting a 1st visit button and having them write "baby" on it. Taking photos with characters and around the parks with it, then giving our parents photos framed with due date and hopefully an ultrasound (if we wait that long).

I wrote what I'm doing, just have fun with it. We have always "just called" which had been great in the past but for us we want to be creative this go around since this is probably it for us.
  • We just told my parents/family over dinner at my mom's birthday. It was the first time we saw them in person after we confirmed I was pregnant. My sister has twins so it wasn't as huge an event to tell them. But of course everyone was super excited.

For my inlaws, it was their first grandchild and they were very patiently, but vocally, waiting to be grandparents. So we wanted to make a big deal of it.

My FIL makes his own wine and it's always terrible. Even he knows that. So we brought them a bottle of wine when we went to dinner at their place. We put a label on it that said, "Grandpa's Finest, May 2014 Vintage". We gave it to him very casually, in the store bag as a joke that we had to bring our own wine because his is so bad. So they absolutely weren't expecting it at all. They were both so excited when they looked at it, I've never heard a scream so loud from my MIL.

  • I just told them and they were excited. I'm sure they'd be thrilled without a song and dance that very well may go over their heads.
  • Yeah, OP, be wary that a big complicated reveal may not go the way you want.

I just told my family with my first two, but with this one, I decided to be cutesy and wrote "I'm pregnant" on a pan of brownies. It just ended up kind of awkward. (I kept the brownies covered until everyone was at the table at the same time, and by then everyone was just fixated on my secret desert)

Do something pintresty if you want, but don't be disappointed if you don't get the reaction you expect.

FX for a good ultrasound the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving we go around the table in my family and say what we are thankful for. My husband and I are going to say we are thankful to have heard a heartbeat at our ultrasound. (First heartbeat in 3 pregnancies so we are sure the family will be really happy with the news.)
This signature is all for YOU. I'm on mobile and can't see crap.

  • are you visiting for thanksgiving? Maybe make a little family of turkeys (mom, dad and baby) for the table centerpiece. And then announce at dinner if no one questions it.

With our first, we gave grandparents a photo of the ultrasound in a baby frame. We had to tell them it was an ultrasound photo.

I'm not sure how we'll announce it this time. Probably just announce or wear maternity clothes if I'm showing, I'll be in my second tri by then.
  • We found out this week we are expecting!! I can hardly hold back my excitement and SO badly want to tell my parents and my husband's parents ASAP. However, with Thanksgiving coming up, we are thinking about waiting!! Anyway, I bought two pacifiers and attached a poem to them.  Since our parents are close and good friends, I would ideally like them to open it up together :)
  • Im telling my family tonight! We need 14 chairs for immediate family plus partners and kids. So I'm going to casually say next year June we need the 15th chair and wait for the penny to drop.
All my sisters have announced it around this dinner so i thought I'd keep the tradition. Its always followed by screams laughter and tears!

  • The first time I hit 12 weeks right around my mom's birthday, so we signed the card from "Blu, Mr. Blu, and Baby Blu coming October 2011."  We sent DH's parents a "Happy St. Patrick's Day" card that said the same thing.

This time my mom, great aunt, and cousin were visiting my very sick grandmother and I wanted to tell them when everyone was all together.  So we recorded the heartbeat during the ultrasound and I texted it to them, calling it "Happy Halloween."  I told my mom it was my son wishing everyone a Happy Halloween.  I also sent her a follow-up email explaining what it actually was.  We just called DH's mom and told her.

  • I saw a cute sign that says " the best dads get promoted to grandpa). Thought about mailing it to my dad and have him open it over skype with me, but he's wanted us to be pregnant since we got married (5 1/2 years ago) so lately he always asks when we talk "hows my grandchild" for me to just say we're working on it... this time I just told him I had a question and I asked him " do you want to be called grandpa or papa"

  • We are going to announce to his parents on Christmas Eve and mine on Christmas Day. His parents are separated, so I got a coworker to make me some blank inside christmas cards, and I wrote to his mom "Merry Christmas Memere (he is french), Love, (our names), ..? Same for his dad, except grampy. For my parents I was able to find a very cute Merry Christmas Grandma and Grandpa card. And wrote Love (our names), and ..? again. I didn't want to go "all out". I just want it to be a simple surprise :)
  • My mom's far away and this will be her first grandchild. I'm sending her a 'grandma' card and a framed ultrasound with poem. I plan to FaceTime her when she opens it. Now just waiting for that first ultrasound appointment with picture (2 more weeks) ...so impatient right now as she keeps asking me why I'm eating so often and even once asked if I was pregnant.
  • I just told my mom in person. For my dad, I emailed him a picture of the positive tests (just the window, not the pee part) and had him open it while I was there (I work for him). It was awesome to see his reaction, he said "are you kidding me?!" with a huge smile on his face, jumped up and hugged me and cried for like 10 minutes, it was really sweet.
For my in-laws, we visited them and gave them chocolate lollipops in the shape of a baby carriage with the word 'baby' on it. My MIL got it right away and was super happy :)
It's fun to see their reaction when they figure it out, rather than just blurting it out like I did with my mom.

  • We stopped over to visit, and my dad always likes to play bartender (the man buys tiny umbrellas and everything). So I just told them I couldn't have any of their booze, and then my mom hugged me for an hour.

My friend told her folks around Christmas time, so she just came in to dinner with a "do not open until due date" tag on a ribbon around her belly.

  • We are waiting until Christmas to Skype with both families.  We will tell them then.  I want to send a pic of the ultra sound and tell them not to open it until we are skyping, but I feel that will be too obvious.  I'm bursting to tell them!
  • Some of the Pinterest ideas are cute, but this kind of announcement really doesn't need anything extra, imo. Our parents will be thrilled...I can't wait to share the news!
