Teething pain

Ok I know I've read this on a thread but I can't find it. What do you use for teething pain? We have the amber necklace and it works for (what I'm assuming) dull pain. But I think we are getting ready to cut teeth. When she's awake she's constantly screaming. It doesn't help she has a cold also. She's been hysterically crying so bad that she's been vomiting. I've given her Tylenol but it doesn't seem to be helping. I need some help! DH just left for a hunting trip and won't be back till Sunday so I'm all alone.

Re: Teething pain

  • Ive heard teething gel or teething tablets can help. But I've also heard both positive and negative things about both. I plan on using lavender oil once her teething gets bad, I still have to look into it more because I saw someone post on the essential oils thread that it can burn LO, so still have some research to do. The little pain my dd has had, I've frozen her paci and the gave it to her, seemed to calm her down for a bit. You could freeze part of a wash cloth also for her to num on. Good luck and hope LO feels better soon!

STM here. I tried a bunch of stuff with DS and a mouthful of teeth later I just go straight to Advil. If baby is still a wreck, then a tiny amount of oragel. Supervise if using oragel or the like.

Some other thoughts: milk-sicles (put frozen BM in a mesh feeder), amber necklaces, frozen teethers, Sophie and that banana teether. Depending on the tooth, they may either comfort nurse until your nips fall off or not want to nurse at all (watch your supply!)

  • I haven't tried this, but a friend who is really into essential oils suggested clove oil (very diluted with olive oil) for teething pain. My first googling of this suggests it might be appropriate and helpful. We're not quite there yet on teething, though.
  • DD doesn't seem interested in chewing on anything except the side if her soothie pacifier. She has a zillion teethers but only wants the edge of the soothie. Also Tylenol and teething tablets have been a Godsend. DD cut 2 teeth Thursday and has been a miserable crying screaming wreck. Both those take the edge off and give us our sweet happy baby back.
