Double stroller Advice needed

Ok Moms of two or more, what's the deal with double strollers? Are they necessary? How old was your oldest when they didn't want to be in the stroller anymore? Do you use it if you have one? What type do you love? I currently have a b-agile single stroller and love it and have thought about baby wearing and strolling DD(almost two) when on walks and grocery trips at first but realize this will not work forever. Any suggestions are welcome!

I have twins, so a double was always a necessity for us. As far as baby wearing, I still wear one of the boys in my Ergo and use an umbrella stroller/ single shopping cart in a busy or narrow aisle store (they are a young two). I much prefer a side by side to a tandem stroller- easier to steer, not as heavy in front, easier to get in my trunk. But, there seem to be a lot of good tandem strollers with the car seat adapter. As long as a place is wheelchair accessible, my double will fit. Strange enough, children's clothing stores are really the only place I ever have trouble getting around (PB Kids and Gymboree are a nightmare, but I don't really know how you'd have enough room to steer a tandem either- especially with one child so close to the floor).

As far as recommendations, I LOVE my Baby Jogger City Mini- the easiest to collapse. For quick trips, travel, or when I need the trunk space for something else, I use a Jeep umbrella stroller. It's so light and, while not as easy to steer as my BJCM, it does okay. It doesn't have any storage underneath, so that is a bit of a problem.

No matter what choice you make, I highly recommend asking the sales person if you can drive it outside and try to put it in your car. That changed my choice, as I couldn't put the BJ City Select in my trunk and some tandems require you to take off one of the seats to get it in your car. What mama has time for that nonsense?!

  • I have 3 doubles. My kids are only 17 months apart so it was absolutely necessary for the first 12-15 months. I am just getting to the point of letting my almost 3 yr old walk.

I got a city select first because I wanted to use the infant carrier with it. I also like that it can be a single down the road and it has a huge basket. Then I got a kinder wagon hop. That stroller is the smallest double umbrella that you can buy and it's tandem. Only the back seat reclines though. I wanted that stroller because we fly a lot and I didn't want to take apart the city select for traveling. Then I got a double BOB for jogging. The BOB is a monster so I only use it for jogging, walks to the park and the zoo.

  • Sorry, butting in here! @jesselayne8‌ how big is your 3 year old? Can you still use your kinder wagon hop? I always wanted to try that but DS is so tall I don't think it's practical but he's super lazy and has a cow when he can't sit in the stroller because DD is.

  • She is 26lb and 35-36in. She can sit comfortably in the front seat or the back. We usually leave the canopy off so the kid in the back can see everything.

  • We have a Joovy caboose sit and stand. Kids are 2 1/2 years apart. Now that A is 3 1/2 we don't use it as frequently unless we are going to do a lot of walking. Usually I just baby wear I and A can walk. I liked that it worked with our Chicco car seat.
