Steam cleaning pump parts

Just curious what others do to clean their pump parts.  We run LO's bottles through the dishwasher.  I wash the pump parts every night in warm, soapy water, then use the Medela steam bags to clean them.  During the day I keep the pump parts in the fridge.  But I'm wondering if doing the steam bag is overkill now that LO is 6 months old?

Re: Steam cleaning pump parts

  • you can definitely just put everything in the dishwasher. i sterilized all bottles/nipples/pump parts in boiling water before the first use, after that they went in the dishwasher. if you get a 2nd set of pump parts, you can have one ready to go while the other one is in the dishwasher.

  • I never steam cleaned the parts after the initial sterilization. Just hot soapy water and never had a problem.
  • It's amazing- my bottle/pump routine is so much faster since I dropped the steam bag!  I guess I just got into the habit and didn't really think about whether I needed to keep doing it.... score one for Medela.
