Rides at Disneyland - would you do it?

I am heading to Disneyland next week with DD and my parents. As its my first time at that park, there are a lot of the rides I want to try. I will be almost 17w at the time.

Would you skip all the rides listed as "expectant mothers should not ride"? Or would you go for it. Being familiar with Disney, I know that most rides, even the roller coasters, are not extreme.

Despite a previous ectopic, this pregnancy has been completely normal with minimal symptoms. I'm just looking for some second opinions :) My overprotective mother says "no way", my husband says "go for it". At a loss!

Re: Rides at Disneyland - would you do it?

  • I would talk to the dr first. Personally, I wouldn't go on the roller coasters or things that that that sign. You don't want to be jerked the wrong way or have that lap bar get pushed into your stomach. There is plenty of things u can do there so I wouldn't do it.

I would do Haunted Mansion, Pirates, riverboat ride, all the ones in fantasy land. There's tons still to do. I wouldn't do Space Mountian, Splash Mountain..basically nothing with huge hills or jerks in the ride.. Or rides that are too fast. Any ride that allows little kids on should be OK IMO. I would personally ride them :) I'd ask your Doc though for reassurance.
  • I would ride the low-key rides, but skip the big stuff.

Totally agree. I was there two weeks ago and unfortunately couldn't ride all the rides that I normally would. But the ones she mentioned above are totally safe. Have fun! :)
  • I think you answered your own question inside your question. If a sign is posted I would most likely listen...

  • Follow your intuition.  If it seems like it's not a good idea, don't.  They put the signs up for a reason.  And your doctor drives a Lamborghini for a reason.  Call him/her.

  • I wouldn't go on the ones that advise against expectant mothers riding. I was in Disneyworld in October and was really bummed that I couldn't go on a bunch of rides that I enjoy but I'm glad I didn't. I don't think the risk is worth it.

  • I wouldn't ride - don't be crazy. Risking the baby for some fun is not worth it. Even if the baby sticks after you ride, what if you hurt your neck or back - 20+ weeks with an injury like that would be terrible.
I don't even think you need to talk to the doc - I think this one is common sense.
  • Personally, I wouldnt. I know if there was a ride with a sign posted not to ride, and I did anyway I don't think I would have fun anyway because I would be afraid it wasn't safe. I think disney has so much to do that I would do other things. I would also be the photographer and take pictures of your H and DD while they're on rides that aren't for pregnant women. Just my opinion, but like @Lilzeezee‌ I'm a goody-two shoes!

  • I just got back last week. I avoided rides that kids younger than my 4 year old couldn't ride. I still had plenty of fun.

  • I took my 3 year old to disney when I was pregnant with my 2nd DD, I went on the light rides (kids rides) but stayed away from anything that suggests if your pregnant do not ride. It just wasn't worth the risk. We went back again when DD2 was born and I got to ride everything. Not worth the risk is my advise.
  • I was in this situation a couple of months ago. I didn't ride any of the rides. For me, it wasn't worth the risk.
  • I think you answered your own question OP. If the rides indicate that expecting mothers do not ride then there is a reason they are saying this.
  • I go to Disney world ALL the time. My rule is if you can take a 2 yr old on it you're safe. They don't meet the height requirement for the dangerous rides. So basically no roller coasters and I'd stay away from tea cups but those make me sick on a good day... I don't know the rides at Disneyland. I know they've got some we don't have and vice versa. But like people have said if you've been before you should have a general idea of appropriate rides. Big drops, sharp turns... Might want to stay away from those.

  • I would avoid everything except low key rides like the ferris wheel (I think that's low-key right?). Also, I would discuss with my doctor before taking a chance.

  • No tower of terror, no splash mountain, no space mountain. No rides that are actually fun basically. Slow, chill rides that you can take a toddler on are your options. Don't be selfish. Disney is plenty fun without taking unnecessary risks.
  • I just went a few weeks ago and just avoided any rides that were more intense, bumpy etc than a typical car ride is. I avoided splash, space, big thunder mountains, Indiana jones, tower of terror and screamin', but went on pretty much everything else :) I still had a really full day of rides and a lot of fun!

I wouldn't do Space Mountian, Splash Mountain..basically nothing with huge hills or jerks in the ride.. Or rides that are too fast.

I would add the Monster's Inc, Jungle Cruise and Star Tours to the OK to ride list! Those are great rides.

I would stay away from Indian Jones. It's not really a roller coaster but I find that there is always a lot of pressure on the tummy area from the seat belts.
Also, the Roger Rabbit ride in toon town is super jerky, way worse then Star Tours in my opinion.
Agreed. Roller coasters are out. Just take a look at the ride and use your best judgment. The Haunted Mansion, Pirates and Jungle Cruise should all be fine. There are some great forums (just google Disneyland pregnant) where frequent visitors and Disney experts will actually give you a list and explanations.
  • I think the part that gets me is that you are considering ignoring the rules for fun on your part. Bc there is so much other things to do in a Disney theme park. You can take photos with characters, shop, people watch, go on low excitement rides, eat all the delicious park food... and you're wrong. Disney coaster can be intense.

Disney =/= Kiddy coasters. Just bc they don't have huge drops, don't mean you don't get whiped around, that they go fast, or they are not intense. There are warning on rides for a reason. Talk to your doctor and do some research. To me, a roller coaster is not worth potntially harming my baby OR getting incredibly motion sick that the say is ruined for you and your family.

A vast majority of the rides at Disneyland aren't roller coasters or thrill rides. Most are very mild and you can take infants on them. I'm sure Disney has to put signs up on most rides as a liability bit I really doubt anyone has gone into labor over Small World or Peter Pan etc. I fly a ton and turbulence is way worse than most Disney rides.
  • I would skip. My husband won't even let me go down a slide. He's worried I'll fall off.

Oh boy. I love when husbands are excited and involved. But if my husband were being this paternalistic, we'd be having a chat. My usually laid-back BIL was super pushy with my SIL when they were expecting. Going out to eat with them was embarrassing because we'd overhear him mentioning all the things on the menu she couldn't order. No thank you.

Your post got me thinking about visiting Disneyland while pregnant.

It turns out that Disney offers
"Pregnancy passes" which allow to skip the line for the rides that you can actually go on. You should check it out and report back after your trip!

I think you just made my day! We are going in January and I so plan on using this!

With that, OP, I agree with the PP that said most of Fantasy Island is good, as well as the other listed ok rides. Though, I haven't been on the new Star Tours.

  • True, most of the rides are kid friendly but from what OP kinda made it sound, like she wanted to risk and go on the rides that were. I will still stand by space mountain and tower of terror are definitely ones to stay away from.

Idk about the Star Tours in Disney Land but I know the one at Disney World can be a little rough and had been labeled as not safe for pregnancy.

Start Tours at DW made me nauseous prepregnancy. I wouldn't tempt it. The shaking plus 3d cinema... very rough.
