Fit Friday

Hey everyone!  I know megbmeg was doing a great job posting this each week and won't be doing it anymore, so I said I'd post if anyone cares to join in. I'll tag the people she was tagging every week, but if anyone wants to be removed from the list just let me know through a PM.

How was your week this week? Are you still fitting in some fitness?

I missed last night and will most likely miss tomorrow because we are having family photos/maternity photos done. But other than that I worked out every day and am still going strong with lifting, Zumba, kickboxing, the stepmill and some running.  My groin has been bothering me a bit when doing certain lower body exercises like donkey kicks and cable kickbacks.

QOTW: A somewhat selfish question because I was reading about it and want to know...Are you planning to do any recovery exercises after LO is born?

I was reading about strengthening the core and pelvic floor before jumping right back into other exercises and was wondering if anyone had read anything or was planning to do anything for it?  With DD I went right back to running as soon as I was cleared but now I'm wondering if I should focus on recovery this time before jumping back into running/kickboxing/other exercises that involve bouncing and jumping around.

  • Thanks for taking over, colliebabe!

I did Crossfit 3 times this week. The every other day thing worked well. I even did some kettlebell swings for the first time in forever yesterday.

I'm interested in having some core recovery exercises. I can see that my abs are split above my belly button, and so much in Crossfit requires the core and ab muscles. A friend of mine at the gym has a 1 year old and she's been hitting PRs very consistently for the past 4 months. Maybe I'll just do whatever she did.

  • It's been another not so good week, but I finally did 2.5 miles yesterday and plan to exercise today and this weekend to make up for when I was sick earlier this week. My appetite is definitely slowing down so at least I have that going for me ;)
As far as the recovery workouts, I never really thought about it. I want to get right back into running tho because I do have a half marathon that I'm planning on doing the end of March. So, I might throw in a few squats once I'm feeling up to it to help with the pelvic floor!
    Also, thanks for taking over!!

My fitness primarily consists of walking between 4 and 5 miles per day every day and yoga twice a week. The yoga has been helping a lot with my back and SI pain so I'm hoping I can pick it up to 3 times per week.

I've done a lot of pelvic and core exercises with my barre method classes and I think it's helped quite a bit with this pregnancy. I'm planning on starting those up as soon as I'm able to!

Not a good week this week.  Went for a 45 minute walk on the weekend and then a couple shorter walks during the week.  Only made it to the gym for 1 workout.  I was home sick yesterday from work and felt nauseous on Wednesday.  I have a four day weekend this weekend, so hopefully I can fit some exercise in.

Haven't even thought about it.  I was planning to just sign up for some Mommy and me classes once I'm cleared to start exercising.  Before that, just plan to do a lot of walking.

  • Swimming three times. It is getting hard to do breaststroke now because of Braxton Hicks. But my backstroke is fine and I'm comfortable doing that!! So I alternate between them for the maximum muscle workout.

Not sure what to do. Plan to ask my doctor about it. I'm hoping to be able to start up swimming again after a few weeks off.
  • Not much other than walking, hoping to make it to barre on Sunday. I have 2 more classes paid for and then I will stop until after I'm cleared to workout. I had a very long recovery last time so I wasn't cleared for activity for a few months postpartum. I plan to do what I can as soon as I can this time.

  • I'm impressed with all of you still working out so consistently! I've started cramping quite a bit when I work out, so the frequency and intensity has gone way down for me. I still try to make it in a couple times a week, but sometimes feel that rest is more important!

As a FTM I also don't really know what to expect in this department...hmmm...
  • I am impressed by you ladies keeping up with your work outs. My workouts consist of walking the dog for a block or two. I do try and get up frequently at work and walk around doing various checks on things. I work in an office but it is at a production facility so the warehouse and production area is quite large. I have been getting out of breath when I walk too much and my exhaustion has come back in my third trimester. I also try to stay active doing laundry cleaning the bathroom, sweeping, and mopping if that counts. ;)

I really want to slow with going back to walking. I want to take LO outside as much as possible when it warms up. I guess it will be my OB's call on that one. I can always go to small gym at my apt complex to walk the treadmill. I plan on first focusing on eating healthy and getting back to dieting. The exercise will probably be added last.

  • This week was pretty good for me...minisculpt, zumba, elliptical and kickboxing. Felt good to get in 4 good days! I'm off on Fridays now so no gym on Friday.

Regarding postpartum working out, hopefully planning on doing a lot of walking. I live on the bike trail son hopefully we don't have a crappy snowy winter!

  • Hey!  Just realized I never responded.

My week was ok.  I only made it to Zumba twice.  I'm thinking that may be my new norm.  I'd really like it to be 3 times, but I am so exhausted lately.  Blah.

I'd like to take a postpartum fitness course.  There are a bunch of practitioners in the area that specialize in helping you rebuild your core.  I know I will need it since I've had bad back problems ever since my DS was born.  I didn't take care to rebuild after him and I'm paying for it.
