Hi i am vegetarian and also plan that my baby will be having the same diet. So was wandering if you have any baby food tips that are good or cookbooks you know of? Thanks
There are a TON of books and awesome blogs on this. Veganmom.com Veganhealth.org Petakids.com Are just a few websites to check out. I've been vegetarian for 11 years and plan on raising my child to be vegetarian as well, but I've read a TON and talk regularly with a dietician. You have to make sure you go about this properly...is it possible? Absolutely! However meal planning and vitamin supplements are a MUST. You need to make sure your baby doesn't just fill up on carbs & that it gets enough fatty omega acids/dha etc "brain foods"
I haven't started looking for pediatricians yet but I've heard horror stories from my vegetarian mama friends so make sure you look for one that understands your dedicated to providing the best nutrition for your child and is on the same page as you.
Yay for veggie babies! Ps is this not the cutest children's book explaining vegeterian-ism?! I just ordered it last night!
Variety! I made homemade baby food and froze it in ice cube trays, then had freezer bags filled with every veggie and grain option under the sun (then would pull a cube of a green veggie, orange veggie and grain (and/or add a freshly puréed fruit portion) and had endless options. My kiddos would eat asparagus and quinoa, mangoes and millet, squash, spinach and oats, etc. it set the tone for a wide pallet. Protein and fat from breast milk and eventually some healthy oils, beans, and nut butters in toddlerhood. My now 10 year old still eats every veggie he sees (peppers, Brussel sprouts, beets--you name it) and I firmly believe it's due to the healthy, wide vegetarian diet we started from 6 months old. Good luck! Feels very rewarding to nourish baby to the fullest!
