foremilk/hindmilk imbalance & pumping

I'm currently experiencing an imbalance and having many complications from it.. my poor baby's poop has been green, he has been gassy and fussy but it's getting a lot better and his poop is starting to turn a little more yellow and less frothy... we're also having latching issues and he's been hurting me, but we're working on that as well.I believe I'm mostly getting everything in control by nursing him on one breast for 3-4 times until empty and then switching. I'd mostly like to know how I can pump while managing to balance my milk again. I like to have at least 3oz put away for when we go somewhere or if I want to have a drink, but I believe I caused my oversupply and imbalance from pumping too much while still nursing. What can I do to put back a bottle for him but keep my supply in control, has anyone had success with this??

Re: foremilk/hindmilk imbalance & pumping

  • Pick a time of day, and pump at that time every day. Pump at that time NO MATTER WHAT. That was the best advice I got for building a supply/stash and I won't lie, it really works well for me.  I get up and pump at 7am no matter what.  Sometimes I get to go back to sleep afterwards, others I don't because baby is ready to wake up soon after.. but 7am is magical go time for me and since I started doing it I'm getting a full feeding out of that pumping session every day.

  • I agree with RedBaramid.  Just pick a time and pump at that time.  I started off pumping right after LO's first nursing session of the day.  I did have an oversupply issue, and had success with block feeding without dropping that pumping session.  Now LO is 6 months old, and I still get anywhere from 2-6oz with that morning pump, even though he's just nursed.
