Horrible panic attacks

Are there many of you out there suffering from panic disorder? I'm seeing a councilor soon but am having terrible anxiety even thinking about leaving the house! How do you cope?

If your panic disorder is affecting your life this much, you need to see your counselor/doctor ASAP.  You also need to let your OB know what's going on.

  • I agree with the pp's. Please see your Dr ASAP.

I had extreme anxiety right after dd was born. I was, like you, afraid to leave the house. I was put on antidepressants to help manage it (along with some ppd) and it helped a lot.

  • Recommend that you get to the doctor to talk about it.  It might be helpful to reach out to others in a similiar situation but the first step should also be speaking with a medical professional.

  • I am so sorry you are going through this! I have had major anxiety issues off and on throughout my life. Call your OB and your therapists office today and explain how serious and severe your experience is right now. They should be able to get you an emergency appointment. You don't deserve to live like that. Hugs!!
  • I do have panic disorder. It can be debilitating but with help from your doctor/ob and a counseling you can learn how to get through the attacks and to cope daily. I had to take medication to help get the under control at first but now find that different coping methods help more than the medicine.

    DEFINITELY call your dr ASAP!

  • I have been dealing with this the whole pregnancy. My OB and therapist have been on it since day 1 but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. While there are some things I can take, my main pill that helps me the most is not allowed at all in pregnancy. The alternatives help but nowhere near as much. Its been a struggle but I am on top of it and dealing with it as best I can. PM me if you want to chat.

Same here. I'd heard a lot about PPD, but never managed to learn of PPA(nxiety) until I'd already been struggling with it for several months.

    Talk to your doctor!

  • Just wanted to check in and see how you are feeling today OP. Any updates?
  • Hey doll. I've suffered from panic attacks and anxiety disorders for a long time now. It's been a struggle during this pregnancy so I know how you feel. Usually I reach for a Xanax but obviously can't do that pg. I have built a good routine of meditation and breathing apps, Epsom salt baths, aroma therapy and CALM powder. While these don't solve the issue they sure have helped take the edge off and have helped me cope. Pm me if you would to chat. Hang in there I know how hard this is. Sending love.
  • Antepartum depression is just as common as postpartum depression, but not as widely discussed or recognized. Often the symptoms (crying, anxiety, not sleeping etc.) are just thought of as regular pregnancy symptoms, or hormones are blamed for them. I told my doctor a few weeks ago about how overwhelmed I have been feeling and how much I have been crying. She told me it's not normal and put me down to part time work so I could get more rest, and she insisted I speak to a therapist. I am thinking of you - you are not alone!
