Very gassy baby- what to do?

DS seems like he's in pain from I'm guessing gas about 90% of his awake time. He also passes quite a bit of gas. At night he will sleep 1 - 3/4 hour stretch but after that he's passing gas and crying off and on every hour.

I've tried gas drops and gripe water which help maybe a little but I'm wondering what else I can do? He just seems so miserable all the time:(

Should I give up dairy?

If your LO was gassy what did you do?

  • I should also add he's been pretty congested at night too for the last month Not sure if that's another dairy intolerance sign.

  • I have same issue with gas and congestion I'm not BF though my LO is on alimentum..reflux meds and gas drops.. I gave a little bit more than .3 of gas drops and it actually helps now.. Bicycling legs and warm baths are all that's helping us..dr said he is colic
  • My LO may have a slight dairy intolerance, as I notice he gets more fussy and gassy when I eat more dairy, but, he seems better when I hold him upright for at least 20 mins after a feed. I have read that congestion and gas can mean dairy intolerance or he may be allergic to something else in your milk. I would talk to your pedi and let them know what's going on, just to see if he may have an intolerance or if it could be reflux.
  • I'm dealing with a gassy/congested baby also. I tried cutting dairy out for @5 days and it really didn't make much of a difference. My LC said milk should be out of your system in 5-7 days. I was told if he did have a milk allergy he would be a new baby after 5-7 days without milk which he wasn't. I also was told babies with milk allergies have green poop and really bad skin. Neither of which my LO has. I'm still wondering what could be the problem.
  • Remember, it can take up to two weeks to see a change in baby once you've changed your diet. I think it takes two weeks to fully get out of the baby's system, not your own, if I'm remembering right.
  • I miss dairy, and although we are still gassy that has made a HUGE difference for us... I would start eliminating known potential irritants week by week and see if that helps you.

  • My LO has acid reflux and her pedi recommended Gerber soothe drops/ bio Gia. The only place I could find them was at walgreens. They really have helped tremendously. She still has lots of gas, but she is more restful and happier. But this shit is kinda expensive. But I was at my wits end, it has helped sooo much, so worth it.
  • Anyone here try a formula that works for their gassy/congested LO? I'm looking to supplement a little but here and there and the other night I tried Gerber soothe(recommended by pedi) and the next day I noticed a rash all over his chest. Wondering if anyone had the same reaction or found a formula that worked best. Sorry of I hijacked this board:)
  • I gave up most dairy a few weeks ago because it was the same with my baby and I noticed a big difference!
