Biting - seeking advice (15 mos olds)

My girls are biting - only each other (and very occasionally me). It's when they are frustrated, so I'm trying to intervene early, but I can't always and also I'm not sure that always intervening is the best for them in the long run. Anyone have experience and/or advice?

  • FTM here.... no real experience. I will say my sister stopped completely after she bit my cousin once and my uncle got soooo mad! But she was 2 or 3 by then. Did it start in daycare? I have heard it can be an expression of frustration, but no idea how to anticipate that.... :-( Good luck!

  • It is very age appropriate. When they get more words it will normally stop. Until then the best you can do is as you say heading it off before it happens and make it clear that it is not okay. Don't let the kid that bit get the toy or the attention, give the other kid attention instead.

However be sure to watch the actual situation, some kids are too smart for their own good and will provoke the other to bite so they can be rewarded. :)

Thanks ladies! I know it's frustration (and sometimes teething) related and it did not start in daycare nor do they bite at daycare... They save all the good stuff for me at home ;)

  • No advice, just wanted to say that you're not alone - mine are 16 months and are doing the same thing. My boy is very aggressive with everyone, and my girl responds by biting the shit out of him. He doesn't bite her, but he does bite me. I have no idea how to handle it either :(.
