Exercise Question

I was active and a runner but took a couple weeks off right around my bfp. This week I've been walking on the treadmill to ease back into exercise. Every single time I feel great on the treadmill but am extremely dizzy when I get off. I'm drinking water the whole time, I'm doing a 3 min cool down. It's kinda scary. I thought I was gonna faint when I went to get my ds from the childcare room. Boo.

Re: Exercise Question

  • Make sure you are eating something with a high amount of protein and carbs about 45 minutes before you start your workout. Your body is processing foods quicker now that you are pregnant and since your body is working overtime, you need to be very diligent about eating before exercise.

  • Also how long are you on the treadmill for?  You may need some nutrition during also.  Grab some gummy bears, almonds or jelly beans you can pop in your mouth easily if you're on there for a while.

  • I've had the exact same issue! Before finding out were were really active backpacking all summer, hot yoga, etc. nasuea finally let up enough I braved the elliptical for 30 minutes and then spent the rest of the night dizzy / vertigo feeling. I didn't feel like I pushed myself at all. Planning to bring it up at my apt next week but really glad to hear I'm not alone.
  • You also want to make sure you're not getting your heart rate up too high.  Take little breaks in between to bring it back down.  Make sure you're drinking plenty of water!

    ~*~*Everyone Welcome*~*~
  • I'm dizzy and out of breath just going up a couple flights of stairs at work, and I was an avid runner/exerciser pre-pregnancy. That was actually one of the first clues I was pregnant - with both my pregnancies, I started getting winded easily right before my BFP.  I have no clue how some people seem to go on with their active lives as if nothing happened - they're just lucky!  I would say listen to your body, and if you're still feeling like that despite proper nutrition and hydration, don't push yourself.  Gentle walks are better than nothing at this point.  There will be plenty of time to get back on the wagon!

  • @musictchr25‌ I had 2 eggs about 45 mins before.
@blu-eyedwife‌ I was on there 30 mins. I felt great during but as soon as I stepped off I was dizzy. My heart rate was never above 145.
  • I know a few people who get dizzy from "stationary" exercise, but are fine when they are running/walking on a track or cycling/running/walking outside.

  • If this makes anybody feel better....
I am a fitness presenter/instructor for a living.  I went into this with the attitude "I'll keep doing EVERYTHING I used to!"
I am currently staying on the second floor of my hotel this weekend and thought I should try taking the stairs.  I HAD TO STOP AND REST.
I've been so sick I haven't worked out in weeks.  I look forward to feeling better so that I can move again!

  • It's just so annoying that I was able to run for 10 minutes straight (don't laugh) four weeks ago and now I about pass out from walking (!!!!) on the treadmill.  LOL
  • I get dizzy and out of breath folding the laundry and I'm normally very active when I'm not pregnant as well. I'm always amazed at the women who manage to keep running during their pregnancies. I found yoga nice while pregnant but I just do it in my living room with a DVD so I can take breaks when I need too. But first trimester is all about survival there's definelty no yoga going on in my living room right now
  • I just walked 3 miles today and all together 5 thank smart phones lol but I have felt fine just the same pressure I get every night and tired and im.not used to walking that much at once :-)
  • The same thing happened to me when running on a threadmill but I was fine when I ran outside. It could be that the machine is moving and then stops. Try walking outdoors or if it's cold where you live do laps at a mall.
