Gut instincts around IUI, questions about my clinic

Today is CD11 -- the clinic just called to say that I will have my second IUI tomorrow at 10am -- great... except the OPKs are still stark white and I have had no eggwhite CM yet. Last month the insemination was also on CD12 but on CD11 I had one of the darkest OPKs I've ever seen and loads of EWCM. Then again, I'm pretty sure I ovulated on CD11 last month and thus my IUI on CD12 was pretty silly...

Because I've temped, CM spotted, and done OPKs for a year now, I'm beginning to suspect that scheduling my IUI is more about my doctor's schedule than what's happening with my cycle... I voiced my concerns about nothing on my OPKs when the clinic called and they read out some numbers that suggest I was at the very beginning of my surge. OK.

So I'm puzzling over the changes. Why no CM? Why white OPKs with no real hint of a second line? I'm taking TCM herbs and I went off my super prenatal vitamins for a few days when I ran out. (Back on now...) Maybe that's it...?

Wife is excited. Says she has a good feeling about this one. So why am I so sceptical? Ugh.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I've been doing blood tests for the past three mornings so that's what the doctor is going off of.

  • Hrmmm - that's a tough one. I definitely found that matching multiple fertility signs was the best predictor for ovulation. However that said, I would assume that blood work would be even more accurate?

Have your OPK's, and other physical signs (CM, BBT, etc) been consistent with predicting ovulation in the past year?

I will also say that and inseminating pre-ovulation is often advised, so the sperm can swim to meet the egg.  So going early is usually less of a concern than going late.  But.. if you are truly worried that you're not in your fertile window I would call and ask for a phone consult with your RE so you can feel confident that you're making the best decision for this cycle.

    Good luck!!!

  • Thanks so much @megd893 and @Jazibel for your advice. I woke up worried about the timing and wondering if we should go forward given all my doubts. When I saw your comments though, I felt reassured and empowered. We asked and the nurse explained and reassured us repeatedly -- then the RE reassured us so... I'm feeling better and now we're into another TWW!
