Stretch marks

is anyone else experiencing heavy stretch marks towards thigh/inner thigh and around the bum and even on the bum!? I started off at 115lbs and now I'm approaching 31 weeks at 147. No stretch marks on my tummy but just these areas.. I've been putting cocoa butter but I've noticed these marks getting more :( any input?

Re: Stretch marks

  • I do have some stretch marks on my lower tummy area, a few inches below the belly button. Unfortunately, I don't think the prevention creams really work. I use regular lotion mixed with coconut oil. Stretch marks are mostly hereditary, and the only way to avoid them is to try to keep the weight gain steady (not in big spurts) and moderate.

I've heard that Strivectin and Mederma are good for fading them.

Maybe put a little tiger stripe across the shirt like a battle scar. So many options! lol

  • I used all kind of stretch mark cream with my first, and it did no good. They don't market stretch marks as genetic, but if you're going to get them you'll get them no matter what you do. :( The good news is they didn't get any worse with my next 3 pregnancies! Welcome to the club! Once they fade, they're not that bad.
  • I have been using mederma pm every night and it seems to be helping keep my stretch marks at bay this time around.

Chances are it has nothing to do with the cream you are using. Just saying.

  • I got big ones on my thighs, love handles, and lower stomach with #1.
As pps have said, not much you can do about them but embrace it! They do fade and become a lot less noticeable as time goes by. Think of them as battle scars :P

Like everyone else said, there really isn't much you can do to prevent them. Drinking lots of water and keeping your weight gain steady are pretty much the only things that can help, but even then, it's mostly genetics. With my first pregnancy, I never got them on my stomach, but my hips looked like they were attacked by a bear. They faded a lot and by the time I got pregnant with this bubby, they were barely noticeable.

  • I used a stretch mark oil with my first pregnancy and it helped keep the stretch marks at a minimum until I ran out with 2 weeks to go.  Then they turned purple, but after about a year they were barely noticeable.  Like several PPs said, they are merely battle scars that tend to fade to some degree in their own time, and until then can be worn like claw marks of honor :-D  image

  • Ya so far, at 29 weeks, my only stretch marks are on the sides of my boobs and on the top of my butt cheeks lol.. I mean I expected them so I didn't really care if I got them but my placement is kinda humerus.... I just use Aveeno lotion after the shower n nothing else, I haven't even tried to avoid them... GL :-)
  • Havent seen any yet, only gained 20 lbs :-(
I did get them before pregnancy when I gained thyroid weight.... that was distressing to me! But now... meh, if they show up- no worries, my mom had a ton!

  • I haven't even checked for new marks.  Previous pregnancies have left them on my belly, hips, thighs, boobs and underarms.  Meh.  DH still thinks I'm cute… He even likes the deflated balloon that is normally my lower abdomen.

Loving the tiger stripes thing, though!

  • I'll offer the UO here. My mom had lots of stretch marks with all three pregnancies. She wasn't so good about using lotion, and she gained 50 pounds with each.

I have gained about 20 pounds and have been good about using a cream with Shea and vitamin E. I have zero dark stretch marks so far, only a couple of pale ones on my hips that might go away later.

    Maybe it's not all genetic?

It's MOSTLY genetic. I'd be willing to bet that your much more moderate weight gain helped too.

  • @Stephij1‌ that's what I'm thinking, too. Just a thought after taking to my mom.

@CrazyMonkeyBear‌ I know. I just happened to talk to my mom about it last night, so that's the info I have. I don't think I'm ready to ask other family about their stretch marks. :)
  • @Stephij1, my mom didn't get any stretch marks either. But I sure did. :(
