I'm curious, for those of you with healthy pregnancies and assuming no medical issues that would require induction, how long will your doctor let you go before induction?
I voted 41 + a few days, though normally they'd say 41. They only raised it because 41 will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving and evidently they won't induce over the holiday weekend =/.
42 weeks and no longer! My midwife said the last week of 41-42 I'll be having three appointments a week! But we'd be doing everything possible naturally to try to start labor to avoid an induction.
I voted 40 weeks, although it's probably 40 weeks + a few days. I have an appt on Monday to schedule an induction if the baby doesn't come this weekend (due date is tomorrow). I thought it seemed a bit hasty, but at this point, I'm ready to not be pregnant!
42wk+ a few here. They will induce sooner if you want. I'm already getting weekly biophysical ultrasounds, so if something concerning showed up with the placenta or baby, I'm sure they would want to do it sooner, as would I!
I also kinda dislike the terminology of "let you go." I use it too, so I'm not picking on anyone specifically. You have to consent to anything they do. You have the right to say no. Doctors may have policies, but they can't fire you without ensuring there is another doc to care for you. I declined induction while hospitalized 2 weeks ago, and the resident there was pushing me really hard to do it. They didn't kick me out :-)
If I were at a practice that induced at a point I wasn't comfortable with, I would be having a long talk with the doc about what they would require to feel comfortable with me continuing on.
The Midwifery Center is legally required to transfer moms out of their care at 42 weeks if labor hasn't started by then. Maybe the OB we'd go to wouldn't require induction that day but I'm guessing they'd push pretty darn hard for it...
I voted SS because I don't know! My doctor hasn't mentioned it yet and I don't want to ask. I'm hoping not to have to be induced. My next appointment is on Wednesday and I'll be 40+3 so I'm assuming she'll discuss it then. Until then I'm going to avoid the conversation. I'd be open to a membrane sweep at that point, but unless it's medically necessary I don't want an induction.
She said we would talk about induction before I make it to 41 weeks.....but she didn't really say when the induction would happen. I voted 41 plus a couple days....cause I figure if we are discussing it by 41 weeks....then it can't be much longer after that.

My practice induces within a couple of days after 41 weeks, so mine is scheduled for 41w1d. I keep going back and forth about trying to ask for another day just in case, and wanting the baby out safely. I'll probably stick with the original scheduled date if baby doesn't come sooner.
TTC since Sept 2011, Unexplained IF Oct 12 - Jan 14: 3 clomid/TI cycles, 2 hysteroscopies, 2 IUIs, 1 BFP (MMC @ 12w), 2 more IUIs Feb 14: Gonal-f + IUI #5 = BFP! (EDD 11/4/14) Baby boy arrived 11/13/14!
My doc said that 39-41 weeks is the sweet spot to give birth. I'm 39w4d. Doc also said he did not want any of his patients going past 42 weeks as complications can occur more frequently after that point. Although I don't want to be induced, if LO doesn't come before 41+, I will be.
N14 November Siggy Challenge - Straight up Celebration!!!
I voted 40wks but I will know more on monday...My pregnancy has been really healthy but with the GD I know they won't let me go more than 40..they already said that LO would be here before Thanksgiving. I'm guessing a few days after my due date.

This!
Everything has been great this pregnancy except the GD. She told me I won't go past my due date (the dreaded 11/28) but she won't induce before 39 weeks either. I have an appointment on my 39 week 0 day day so my guess is we will talk about it at that point. She mentioned a membrane sweep at yesterday's appointment as a possible way to get things going. So if I don't go before then on my own I would guess she would do the sweep at the 39 week appointment. She is out of the office all next week so I'm hoping baby stays in all next week.
The general rule is 42 weeks at my doctors office with biweekly appointments after 40 weeks. I am 40 weeks this Wednesday and I am assuming we may talk a little more at that point about what will happen if my baby doesn't make an appearance.
My ob office is generally 41 weeks, but hopefully he'll just come on his own by his due date as a.) I'd rather not be induced and b.) because I want to avoid him being born on my niece's birthday (which is 41 weeks for me... and yes, somewhat selfish and slightly irrational a reason) - I was in l&d with my sister 2 years ago when my niece was stillborn at 37 weeks... as much as my sister says it may be healing for her to have her nephew born then, I'm not sure if it really would be. Sooo both things considered, my fingers are crossed that he just decides to make an appearance before 41 weeks!
I voted SS because I'm seeing a home birth midwife. I believe that legally she would have to transfer care at 42 weeks, so I would probably consent to a membrane sweep prior to that... however, if my care were transferred to an OB, I would still resist an induction without indication. I'd rather monitor baby/myself and keep on keeping on, until we had reason to induce.
Within my midwife's practice (homebirth), clients typically get risked out after 42 weeks. So, basically, they can get to 42 weeks and change, but not much further. Usually around 41 weeks she suggests weekly or twice weekly BPPs and NSTs.
However, my comfort level is 41 and change.

Very interesting answers! My doctor said 10 days past my due date because of the increased risk of complications. Since my due date is in a few days and I've had zero signs of labor, no contractions, no dilation etc, I was curious what everyone's care providers generally go for.
I'm progressively dialating every week 1 cm. not that that means anything. I made it very clear I was NOT planning on being 42 weeks pregnant! I'm gonna hit right at thanksgiving if that happens. Our LO has a whole in her heart as well so I really don't feel like messing around with doctors that don't know what is going in with her currently because everyone else is out on thanksgiving.
So, at my appointment yesterday they told me that if I make it until my next appointment (on my EDD), they'll start talking about induction but they won't actually do anything until 41 weeks.
I plan to hold off as long as possible but I'm not sure how long my Dr and the specialist will let me go. Every appointment has been normal, so I'm hoping they will be okay with letting me go to at least 41 weeks.
