  • Rocking and a bottle before bed here. She's pretty adamant about that before bed feeding.

  • I try but Emma wants no part of it :((

  • @sweettooth87 I am just genuinely curious about this. So, once he falls asleep, is he sleeping like in your bed? Do you get up and then go to bed later? I've always wondered how this works.

  • My girls go down without rocking but I sometimes do it if we have MOTN issues. Lizzy has been waking lately either in pain from has or from nightmares, idk, she's inconsolable and very distraught so I rock her in those situations. I kind of enjoy it now that I don't do it all the time.

Yes, we go to bed later and yes he is sleeping in our bed. On the very rare occasion he wakes up and doesn't put himself back to sleep, he sits up and waits for one of us to come (I think it's adorable); usually though he'll fuss a bit and go back to sleep on his own. He doesn't really roll around much, but even if he did we have the toddler guard rails up that would prevent him from falling.

  • I've never been able to rock her to sleep unless I was BFing at the same time, and she wouldn't stay asleep once I put her down. I never got that special cuddle time once I quit BFing!

  • @carawasa‌ and @missgpsu‌ I also have an LO that doesn't really cuddle. I try to read and rock her and she wants no part of that. I asked her for kisses before bed tonight and she burped in my face!
  • Me! It's my favorite time with him!! He's not really much of a cuddler these days now that he's mobile and always wants to be on the move. He doesn't seem to have issues putting himself to sleep, so I normally rock him while he's finishing his bottle and then put him in his crib. Sometimes he's more awake than other times and we've been fine either way.

  • Omg! @ballygirl here too! Dd has been waking at least 6 or 7 times during the night crying and is pretty distraught. I just read tonight that this is the stage where they start dreaming and it can wake them. It's been bad. I'm so exhausted.

  • We nurse to sleep, and I don't see any signs of this changing. We also bed share, so the two go hand in hand for us.

  • @ballygirl & @deedee1017 Us too! For the past month (yes MONTH), DS has been waking at least 2x a night flipping his shiz and refusing to go back down in his crib!!! He will fight me for a minimum of 2 hrs before I can settle him back down completely and get him to go back to sleep in his own bed. Then 2 hrs later he's up again, and at that point I crawl in the guest bed with him and we bedshare until morning. I have no clue what is going on! When he wakes up, I can lay him down beside me, and he will go right back to sleep, but if I put him back down in his crib all hell will break loose. We've tried sleep training both No Cry & CIO and neither worked for us. It's so exhausting!

  • We nurse to sleep usually. If that doesn't work I will walk with her in her room. She doesn't like to sit in the rocker and be rocked. It's annoying when I'm so tired I can't even stand.

  • Sometimes we rock to sleep but most the time we just walk him around in his room until he's asleep and then put him in his crib. I think we started a bad habit though.

  • We rock and nurse to sleep. Sometimes he'll go down drowsy but not often. I don't mind, it only takes about 10 minutes most nights.

It takes about 10-15 minutes on the nights I rock her. And yes she will go to sleep without being rocked but only with someone who is not me ( my husband or her grandparents)
  • Yes. DS is either taking a bottle, holding his lovey, or getting his back scratched as I do. I love it. ☺

  • Until last week we rocked and DD nursed until she either fell asleep or until it'd been 15 mins (the arbitrary point at which her lullaby thing across the room needed to be restarted), and then I'd put her in the crib drowsy but awake.

Now we rock while DD gets her bottle, then I put her in the crib awake. I do enjoy the snuggle time - feeding is the only time she holds still!

Either way, if put in the crib awake, she usually plays about 10 mins then falls asleep, but some nights I've seen her play an hour before falling asleep.

I rock her as she gets her last (ETA: and only, these days) bottle, then put her down drowsy. She falls asleep in a couple minutes max.

  • We have a routine of dinner, bath, jammies, bottle, then off to the rocker we go. Usually it takes about 15-20 minutes of rocking and story time and singing and he falls asleep and I put him in his crib. Tonight, he drank his bottle, flipped over and fell asleep on my chest.

The rocking to sleep part is our only one on one time all day. I have been diligently trying to put him down drowsy, but those peaceful moments when we're laughing and singing and talking are precious to me. I tell him stories about how dad and I met, when he was born, about how proud I am of him. Those 15 or 20 minutes are what got me through the miscarriage.

  • Graham would never let me rock him. From early on, if he didn't fall asleep while eating then just lay him down and he's got it. So different from DD who I rocked endlessly for seemingly ever. I'm okay with it. He's a cuddler when awake, too heavy to rock anyways, I got my fill of rocking with my first and am just happy to have a good sleeper.

  • I rock and nurse him down for the night, but he usually doesn't fall asleep in my arms anymore. We rock for max 10 min before he is a wiggle worm and then I put him in his crib and he puts himself to sleep. Sometimes he messes around for up to 30 min, but almost never cries going down anymore.
