Craniosacral Therapy for Latch Improvement

Anyone try Craniosacral Therapy to help their LO's latch? We just had our first session yesterday. My DD's latch on the left is not very good and she's 9 weeks old. She's too shallow and does a lot of up and down sucking which puts a crease in my nipple. Anyone have experience with this therapy? Did it help?

Re: Craniosacral Therapy for Latch Improvement

  • I've heard it recommended but never tried. I have the same issue but on both nipples. Have you tried a different position so that its similar to the good nipple? If you are doing cradle, try football so baby is laying on the opposite side, for example.

  • Yeah, she nurses better with cross-cradle, but not so great on the football hold. She's also a slow nurser (45 minutes) so I'm hoping that we can improve her efficiency.

  • Hi, I'm a FTM of a precious 6 week old girl, but I have lurked here for months! Forgive me for reviving an old/zombie thread. When I did a search though, this post basically mirrored my question except we have our first session tomorrow and my DD had a tongue tie that was clipped. Her pedi recommmends CS therapy for a "tight jaw". OP, did the therapy help overall? TIA!
  • It's really hard to say! I had a horribly torn up nipple that showed no signs of healing even with APNO. All of a sudden it just started healing after CST--not sure if it was a coincidence, but I would like to think the CST helped. Her nursing time cut by about 10-15 minutes after a few CST sessions, but again, I don't know if the CST helped or if she was just at that milestone where they become more efficient. We are still nursing at 11 months and latching became no big deal around 3 months :)  I say that you are doing the right thing by at least trying it. It's very gentle and the therapist pointed out some areas that could be contributing to a bad latch (such as the sucking motion I mentioned above) and I liked that I could find reasons for the bad latch because it made me feel like we could fix it now that we knew the source.

  • Thanks @eggmankate‌ for getting back to me. DD had her first CST today so we'll see if her latch improves. Do you remember how many sessions you did?
  • I think I did 3 sessions once a week. What did your therapist suggest?

  • Oh wow, we don't go back until next week. She hasn't given a definite number of how many but just said "a few". My LO's latch seems better. Thx! I will be so happy if we're still nursing@ 11 months like you :)
