Pregnant after IF

Tentative Intro & Q re: internal u/s bleeding

Hello! I know many of you from the IF board. I'm tentatively dipping my toe in over here. Our first Beta at 10dp5dt was 594 our second was 12dp5dt 1345 I was supposed to have a scan on 5w4d and ended up having one a day early due to watery brown spotting. Things looked good. Two sacs and yolk sacs. I've had brownish pink discharge/ spotting pretty much daily. I had a scan for HB today at 6w4d and we saw two beautiful heartbeats: 120, 115. This evening, I had a bit of a bleed. It was more red this time. Has anyone experienced bleeding after Internal Ultrasounds?

Re: Tentative Intro & Q re: internal u/s bleeding

  • SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited to see you here!! I lurk on the IF board, but I missed your BFP! And it's TWINS! Congratulations!!

As for the bleeding, I feel like almost everyone who has joined here recently has had some kind of spotting or bleeding at various points. It could definitely come from the transvag--your cervix at this stage is pretty much a blood balloon, and some ladies even get a bleed after especially (ahem) productive trips to the loo. (Remember that if you're bleeding and you're Rh negative you'll want a Rhogam shot, just in case.) Always tell your OB, but it seems pretty typical for IVF/FET ladies.

    Welcome to the board!!!

I go to my OB on Tuesday for another internal. I'll check into the Rh negative thing ASAP.

Thank you so much for the response!

Yay!!  Those are great betas and HB rates!  I feel like a high percentage of IF grads experience some spotting.  I had a good amount at 7 weeks and then brown spotting for 2 more weeks.  But I know the bleeding/spotting sucks!!  Are you still going in weekly for a while to keep your mind at ease?

ETA: Just saw you go in Tuesday.  Good luck!

    Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
    IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN
    IVF 1.2: 8R 6M 4F -- 2 blastocysts frozen, FET 8/15 = BFP!!
    Beta #s = 445;1,098; 9,545  -- EDD 5/2 -- Team Pink!
    Camila Josephine arrived 4/30 :)

What color was your spotting at 7 weeks? This one freaked me out because it was red. BLAH!
Hopefully after Tuesday (if all goes well G-dwilling) I will request one more before the 12week scans! My poor OB. I don't want to drive him crazy right of the bat haha.

Love seeing your little lemon, girl!

  • At first bright red, then it stopped...then it came back heavier with clotting but a darker red...then it tapered off to just brown spotting.  I had an u/s when it was bright red and again when I had some clots, but everything looked good.

  • Congrats! I've had a few bright red bleeding scares. Once at 4wk3d, 6wk6d and a couple days ago at 8wk3d. It normally starts when I pee, then will last about a few hours (light bleeding but red, not enough to fill a pantyliner) and then it seems to taper off and I'll have a bit of brown spotting the rest of the day. The last two times I also passed a small clot. I got checked the day of my worst bleed at 6wk6d and everything was fine, they don't know where it came from. I called yesterday about Sundays bleed and they said its most likely vaginal from the suppositories and since it stopped they don't think I need to come in. Had a great u/s friday, so trying to not worry about it since it happened before and all was fine! So yes, it seems common!
  • Welcome and congrats on your twins! The spotting could be a little cervical irritation from the ultrasound or could be a small SCH (a pocket of blood at the implantation site) to list a couple of possibilities. Unfortunately, spotting seems quite common with IVF pregnancies and even more so with IVF twin pregnancies.
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs

    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • Welcome & Congrats! To answer your q - YES! After a particularly vigorous internal u/s, I had a gushy bright red bleed with cramping! As others have said, it is unfortunately pretty common round these parts!

  • I had bleeding (bright red) three times during week 6 and 2 times during week 7. I was diagnosed with an SCH, so I officially had a cause for it. I had brown spotting in between the actual bleeds. But a lot of women have bleeding and no official cause for it.

I was diagnosed with a SCH today. My OB wasn't too worried about it. Was yours the same?

  • Welcome and congrats! I had a bleed with my DS around 6 weeks the day of the first u/s, but prior to it. It didn't come back after that. Although you'll google otherwise, spotting and some bleeding is rather common and not always a cause for alarm. I'm glad your dr found a cause for yours though. They often don't. Glad to hear everything looks great!

  • Congrats & Welcome!
I'm also pregnant with twins from IVF, and I've had spotting of all colors (pink, brown & red).  It looks like you found the problem with the SCH.  As long as your doc's not worried, you shouldn't be either.  I know, SO much easier said than done, but it does get better as time goes on.
