Trouble TTC

introduction {{pcos&hypothyroidism}}

Hi all--

I've been lurking and stalking for the past year or so because I always knew SOMETHING was wrong.

That something got a diagnosis yesterday. PCOS & Hypothyroidism. I have never naturally had AF besides being on bcp for less than a year when I was 17 or so. I'm 21 now and a newlywed.

My DH has been supportive but not very understanding as it's been hard for him because he has raging baby fever. I'm just hoping to find a helpful support system here and other ladies that I can talk to and hear their stories too.

It's all still sinking in.
Today was day #1 on levothyroxine and tonight will be my first dosage of progesterone.

Can't wait to start getting to know everyone (even though wishing it wasn't under these circumstances)

xoxo paige

  • @SND1231‌ @meredithcarole‌ -- thank you both!

@hrushka‌ -- thank you and just over a year.

@rainbowbridge14‌ -- thank you and no re yet. I am starting with my obgyn to try to get my body first to a semi-normal state. She is very knowledgeable in IF and I have multiple recommendations. She wants to get my thyroid levels between 2&3 (i believe) and is hoping the progesterone will get me to start ovulating. Fingers crossed!!

I have NO IDEA what to be expecting

    xoxo

  • Welcome! So sorry you find yourself here.

I hope YH will be able to work through some of his feelings and get to the point where he is more supportive. It sucks, MH can be awesome one day and then insensitive the next - guys' experience with IF is so different sometimes!

Although you have an explanation of IF, that in no way precludes you and YH from having other causes. Although some women take things one step at a time, many others regret all those cycles when they never knew it was a waste of time (due to blocked tubes, low SA, whatever). I guess maybe do some thinking to see what you prefer - for us, we spent years TTC before getting fully tested (just had an SA), and I'm okay with that because it gave time for MH to get on board with treatments.

Hope your thyroid gets under control right away and that solves your anovulation/irregular periods!! :)

  • Hi, welcome. I am sorry you have to be here. I echo PPs in wondering what other tests you have had. I do highly recommend you get an SA to rule out at least that factor. I hope your thyroid levels even out soon.

    All Welcome

  • Welcome and I hope your stay with us is short. I agree with the ladies, although, it may be challenging to get your DH on board with certain tests, they are necessary to get the full picture to not waste time. If your OB hasn't ordered a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) I would ask her to request one. That will give insight as to whether your tubes are blocked.

  • Well damn. Haha
Everyone us being INCREDIBLY helpful and I can't say thank you enough! I honestly had no idea about all these tests that I will obviously need to be more proactive about.

My follow up appt for my thyroid levels isn't until February. And I will be having bloodwork done in 6 weeks. DH is aware of SA and is all on board with that.

I know it's a long shot but is anyone from Seattle area that can suggest an excellent RE? I'll be doing research on that today. I am just so frustrated though because insurance doesn't cover IF so we will have to take it slow.

Again, I can't thank everyone enough for being so kind, welcoming, and helpful!
  • Welcome.

PP covered most of it.  I too am PCOS and Hashimotos.  Synthroid will help.  I hope they told you it needs to be taken alone from other medications with a full glass of water on an empty stomach and no eating for 30 min- 1 hour after.  While it will help get your TSH back in order it may not cause ovulation.  Researching a RE is probably a good idea.

Have your DH do his SA, should there be an issue you can get to work on correcting that.  It takes 90 days to make new swimmers.

Hope your stay here is short.  The ladies are a wealth of knowledge and they rock.
