Oh, ye Random of Thor's Day

I don't know why, but I have this intense desire to go to the zoo. I've never really had it before and used to go all the time, but it's probably been 3 or 4 years since I've gone. I like all the aminals though. :)

Maybe I'll try talking friends into going to the zoo when all the holiday lights are up.

Re: Oh, ye Random of Thor's Day

  • I LOVE THE ZOO. When my tax return comes in next year, if I have enough money, I'm going to become a member at the zoo. Because DD is an animal lover, I'm an animal lover and BF is an animal lover. I can't wait to go back, it's one of my favorite places to be!

Yesterday i was at target looking for a birthday present for c. I found him a stuffed olaf then was wondering around the shoe department. I found mickey mouse high tops for b in his size! Then i found little dress shoes. I decided to wait on those, but ive decided im getting him a suit and dress shoes for his christmas outfit so he can match his opa

  • Tiny people clothes is the cutest. I'm going to be forever broke. haha

When's a good time to start things like Zoo Outings with LO? I've thought about memberships to kiddie museums and the zoo, but if I can get away with not joining for a few years, I may wait.

  • I waited until DD was vaccinated. But I mean, that was just how it worked out.

  • How long does that normally take?

  • I believe the first vaccines are administered at 2mo old

  • Oh, I thought you meant done with shots for the year or something. I don't plan to go out or do too much until LO can at least sit up unassisted. Just like my mom suggested just staying home until the umbilical stump is completely fallen away. Sounded like liquid gold to me.

  • Oh, no, kids get vaccinated for years. Waiting to be fully vaccinated is a little over the top in my book.

And DD didn't start sitting up unassisted for quite some time.  I think until she was 5mo? Maybe 6mo? I highly recommend going out with your LO while your LO is very young.  It helps her to get used to other human beings and helps to start the whole socialization process. That includes passing him/her around while you're there.  I have a friend who's kid, I'll call her babe E, is about 2 weeks older than mine who still will not let anyone else pick her up and just cannot be apart from mommy.  Even though they took her around everywhere, they never passed her around.  E goes to the zoo, parks, fairs, etc. but it's so hard on my friend because anyone that wants to hold E turns E into a screaming mess.  And, of course, no one wants to hear their baby crying, so immediately my friend takes E back and soothes her.  I take DD everywhere and pass her off to people and if she cries, I shrug and say "I'm not going to be the only one holding you, dear."

Of course, this is just opinion.  I'm not going to tell you how to parent.  That's your mom's job ;)

I'm actually at the point where I don't think I can carry DD anymore.  This faint limp I've had since I was in high school that I have managed to hide is getting to be more prominent.  I'm also getting a very bad back!  Who would've thought that 30lbs could be so heavy!

  • I'm more of a homebody, so someone advising to stay home was like a choir of angels. :P

I can see how allowing others to frequently hold LO will be beneficial.

I'm sure we'll be doing restaurants for dinner and grocery stores for errands. That sort of thing. I don't see the point of some of FB friends who post "Off the the children's museum!!" with a 3 month old. (Don't they pretty much just sleep, poop, eat, and cry for the first several months?) They always end up leaving after about an hour.

I don't get taking a tiny baby to a place where you pay at least $20 to pay for parking/entrance, sitting with a sleeping human in a stroller, taking a selfie, and then leaving.

  • @St3wd i totally get where your coming from. Ds first outting was the fair at two weeks old. C wanted to go so i nursed b packed the boys up got there walked around until b started fussing. C got to see the animals and bfs friends got to meet b. Other then that we went out to church, and things for bfs family.

B didnt really start to be fun to take places until 10 months. Thats when i would take him to the park and he would chase after c and his cousins

  • What time of year was B 10 months? Will seasons really factor in?

Summers are UNBEARABLE in the south.

  • I'm a homebody too. Putting in the effort to go out is sometimes overwhelming! And yeah, we didn't do anything that was like a children's museum when she was really young because she's sleeping! Why bring a baby to these places?

  • Before I leave for a few hours to hang out with my dad, my roommate made oatmeal. Some sort of savory, garlic and cheese and Braunswagger mess. She brought me a bowl, and to be nice I took a bite. I don't know if it's my pregnancy tastebuds, but EW.

  • Its cute, but its just pure insanity when they are together. But b and his cousin need each other. Both are bruisers who love to rough houser. My other nephews... not so much. And c isnt interested in wrestling, hes a very mellow kid.

So b has more fun than you can imagine with his cousin wrestling, and.chasing each other, and playing. But theyll also sit on the couch and cuddle.
