numbness/pins and needles?

I'm 36.5 weeks and for the last few weeks, my right arm and hand go numb quite often. Sometimes it is when I'm typing or accidentally slept on it, but other times there is no reason. It drives me nuts! Yet my left side is seemingly unaffected. Same thing with my legs...my right developed swelling and varicose veins, the left is unaffected. My doctor ordered an ultrasound of my legs to rule out any clotting which came back negative for any clots but this hand thing is driving me nuts! Any ideas on how to avoid it?

You're very pregnant with a body being forced into different situations. Enjoy the quiet before the baby comes, the crazy stuff you describe will go away then too. I get the most uncomfortable and sharp pains accompanied by numbness in my right leg and anticipate it will get worse in other areas the closer the big day comes.

I get that in my left leg...I am sure it's a pinched nerve or just how the baby is sitting. Part of cooking a baby!!!

The same thing happened to me (with my arm/hand, right side only). Carpal tunnel is common during pregnancy and you don't have to be doing anything to cause the numbness and tingling. It happened to me several times just walking around the store with DH.

I have something similar and was told to wear a hand brace at night . It seems to help a little. Good Luck

It happens- I've had carpal tunnel for a lot of this pregnancy- be glad it is only starting now. It is both my hands- all day and all night. It sucks and makes it hard to sleep, but thankfully you are almost there

so just hang in there. Braces do help some, as does less salt and staying very very hydrated. Good luck

All of your nerves for your arms and legs cross in your lower spine. As the baby grows it's very common to get pinched nerves and aggravation leading to all of the symptoms you have. The absolute best thing you can do is start seeing a chiropractor. Not only to relive these symptoms but also to get your pelvis in alignment for the birth. I started seeing one at 6 weeks knowing that I have had sciatica type symptoms from a gymnastics injury and at 27 weeks I haven't had any pain or issues at all. No ligament pain, no pelvic or hip pain, etc. Could just be coincidence but I swear that getting adjustments regularly is the trick. I feel so much better after my monthly appointments and I'm going to start adding in prenatal massage as well.

Several years ago my husband woke up with a numb spot on his leg after sleeping weird. After so many doctors, specialists, neurologists, etc. evaluated him nothing could be found to blame and he was basically told to just live with it. He started seeing a chiropractor and was totally better after a few months of regular adjustments. We were both insanely amazed by how much the spine has to do with overall health and these sorts of symptoms. So although I sound like an infomercial, I think all pregnant women should see a chiropractor!
