I go in for a growth ultrasound later this week but have consistently measured ahead. If you have done the same, what has your OB told you? Suddenly I feel nervous that they will induce me early if the baby seems too big. I had an internal today and my cervix is soft but closed so no progress yet.
TIA
Re: Measuring Big. Anyone else?
I was measuring 3 weeks ahead at 34 weeks. Growth u/s showed DS over 7lbs at 35 weeks. I was induced due to high bp and pre-e at 38 weeks. DS was 9.5lbs and was 2 weeks early.
You can choose not to be induced due to the baby's weight. It's not an exact science at all. I wouldn't be induced unless medically necessary (i.e. high bp and pre-e.)

Are we talking about measuring with the tape measure that they do - because I was 30cm at 27 weeks, but the doctor says it's +/- 3 cm accuracy.
I don't think a doctor would induce based on this measurement...that sounds crazy.
i was measuring three weeks ahead at my 36 week check up. dr. said that means he is big for 36 weeks, not necessarily developed as much as a 39 week baby. in other words, his lungs may not be fully developed. she said that i have two choices 1). induce at 39 weeks or so 2). wait and let things progress naturally. she said it is up to me, and she knows i do not want to be induced and she is 100% supportive of that.
my dr. is the best! i love her.
my doctor is basing it off of 1). fundal height measurement 2). growth ultrasound estimate. but you are right, those estimates can be waaaay off. that's part of the reason i would never get an induction based on size. jmo.
Granted I'm way behind you, but I've been measuring consistently small. They sent me for a growth ultrasound last week to rule out IUGR, and it showed the baby is actually larger than average. The doctor said that the outside measurement is only a very rough guideline, and isn't very accurate because of the way different women carry. (In my case, I'm relatively tall, which probably swayed it.)
Now I want the doctor to give me a letter saying that I'm measuring small so I can thrust it in the face of the multiple people who have asked I'm having twins.
Me too!
I measured big throughout the 3rd tri of my last pregnancy and the dr estimated I would have a large baby, encouraging induction around my due date. My son was only six and a half pounds at birth, two weeks early. I'm measuring big again this time and I'm not concerned at all. It's just a guess.
