I am a FTM and really overwhelmed with the idea of how much everything makes it seem I am going to bleed after delivery. What types of pads did you use last time or would you recommend??
Don't worry, the bleeding is no worse than a heavy period and it lightens up after a week or so. Just use heavy flow/overnight maxi pads - I think is used Always brand- they worked great.
I'm a FTM too so I have no clue what to expect, but my all time favorite pads when I had my period is the Always Infiniti. Not sure how big they go though, I'll definitely be checking.
Thanks @Mamasaurus15, yeah I think the always are still plasticy. They can make me chaffe. Maybe I'll try a small pack like you said too, to see if it's better. Target brand is ok and not plasticy, but can leak in my experience.

The hospital gave me a lot of big pads (like ridiculously giant...like the size of a foot-long Subway sandwich) and even a duffel bag to take home. And those mesh underwear and also the ice pack pads. Usually if you ask for extra, they'll give it to you to take home. So I used that for the first week and then either Always or Stayfree pads after that.
Depends. Seriously a life saver. I used the hospital pads the first week with my DD and then switched to the heavy flow pads. I had depends on for the first 3 weeks for just in case. It was magical to not have to worry about leaks.

I used always overnights. The hospital ones were too giant. After a couple days I switched to regular always pads. I feel like some people complained about the mesh on top of the pad getting caught in stitches, but I didn't have any stitches in that area so I don't know if always would cause an issue or not.

I could hold you for a million years
to make you feel my love.
I use Kotex Natural Balance for all of my pads/tampons/liners all the time. While in the hospital (4 days) I used the hospital pads, but they are the size of a newborn diaper basically. So after that I switched. The Always and a different like if Kotex were kind if plasticy to me. They clung a weird way and made for a very unpleasant feeling. The Kotex natural balance were soft and cottony and did a good job if absorbing.
I'd suggest get a big pack of whatever you end up liking, because the first couple of post partum periods can be AWFUL. Like....we go 9 months without bleeding. Then the first 2-3 periods make up for tthat at least that's what I experienced, as did almost everyone else I know. I'm sure its not like that for everyone.
I used the ones from the hospital and then switched to Always. Because of my stiches, it was actually more comfortable to use the bulky (not Infinity or ultra-thin) pads without wings for the first few weeks. The extra padding really helped, and something about the ultra thin type really hurt my incision. I can't remember how long I needed the overnight vs regular pads, but I know I used both. Once my stitches weren't an issue, I switched to the ultra-thins. I think I bled for 5-6 weeks, but it was only really heavy for a week or two. I went through an insane amount of pads, though!
I know this wasn't part of the question, so here is my unsolicited advice for the day.
Buy some really comfy granny panties that you won't mind if they get stained. You want something this is actually going to hold the pad in place. And the last thing you want is elastic cutting into you. And I think the part about not caring if they get stained us pretty obvious. Just a friendly tip for anyone who has yet to do that.
I am embarrassed to say it, but adult diapers at night rocked. I didn't worry at all about leaking at night at all. During the day I used a heavy flow pad, but at night... adult diapers all the way.

This is fantastic advice!!! I actually requested an extra pair of the mesh panties from the hospital and wore those with the giant pads for the first few days.

I just ordered some LunaPads, after thinking about it for almost 2 years :P
It sounds like you both like cloth pads? What is your wash routine?
They are great!
When I'm done with one, I'll wring it out as best I can in the sink under cold water. (As you can imagine this takes longer with heavier duty pads. I barely need to do anything with cloth liners.) Then I have a bucket (it's really an old yogurt pail that I saved and repurposed) filled with water, Woolite, and nontoxic bleach-type powder. I just add the wrung-out pads to this container until it gets really full. Then I squeeze these out and add them to the regular wash (and dryer). I barely have any stains, but I've been using the same pads for 5 years - so they are a little faded.
Re: STM-Best pads for post birth
Ugh, now my memory is coming back to me....yuuuccckkkkkkk
With my second Maybe a month.
With my 3rd I bled for a week!
I stocked up on overnight pads and only needed them for the first 3 days. Then I went to a regular pad and by day 5 I was using panty liners.
I remember bleeding allot with my first two, and it was really heavy.
Anyway, I'd Def. Suggest overnight pads for sure though.
