Birth Story!

Short Version: Brycen was born 11/4/14 weighing 9lbs and 21.5 inches long!

Long version:
I was scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks based on a couple things- 1 I knew my dates were off by at least a week so when my doctor offered to induce "early" I went for it. Plus she had measured he would be a "big baby" she thought around 8lb range.

For the past few weeks I had been having prodromal labor- contractions constantly and just plain miserable.. I was only dilated 2cm and 70% effaced at my 38 week apt.

We arrived at the hospital around 6:45am n 11/4/14. The nurses checked me in and got me all settled with an IV since we were there for a planned induction.

8:00am my OB arrived and checked me- I was 3cm and 90% effaced and the monitors were picking up I was already having contractions (which I had been having for weeks!) she decided to go ahead and rupture my membranes and start me on a low dose of pitocin to get my contractions in a regular pattern. When my waters were ruptured there was a small amount of meconium. I was freaking out about it but they assured me it was such a mild amount they did not think we would have any issues. Within 20minutes of starting the Pit my contractions were finally in a pattern.. Nothing like they had been for weeks.

10:30am- Started having pretty intense contractions but wanted to hold off on getting my epidural because I felt it was just too soon. The nurse went ahead and checked me and I was at 5cm and still 90%. I went ahead and had her call for the epidural because my contractions were less than a minute apart and right on top of each other. It was awful! My husband and mom were both telling me to just go ahead and get it while I still could so I agreed. Once the epidural was placed I had immediate relief. It was amazing!

12:00pm I sent my family to go eat lunch hoping I could rest some while they were gone. Then around 12:20pm started having a lot of pressure and could kind of start to feel my contractions again. The nurse checked me and I was 7cm and completely thinned out. She told me then we would probably be having a baby quicker than we had thought!

1:00pm- I'm feeling a ton of pressure and contractions. I went ahead and hit the little button on my epidural pump at that time. Thinking PLEASE work before I have to push lol!! The nurse went ahead and checked me again because I felt like I needed to push.. Sure enough I was completely dilated to 10 and baby was ready to come. She told me not to push and she would call my OB right away to come over. She was at her office which is about 15min from the hospital.

2:10pm- Doctor walks in and preps me for delivery. A whole team of NICU nurses were there as well- for a back up due to the meconium in my waters. I pushed for 13 minutes and then delivered a beautiful BIG baby boy! We were all shocked at how big he was. 8lbs 15.9ozs- they rounded up to 9lbs 0ozs and he was 21.5 inches long!!! I had a 2nd degree tear but other than that it was honestly the smoothest labor and delivery!! Nothing like my first which was also an induction that lasted over 12hrs!!

I'm still amazed at how my body did that so quickly and how I was able to push out this 9lb baby when I had such a hard time delivering my 1st son he was only 7.8! We are all doing well. Baby boy is learning to latch on and breast feeding has been a struggle but we are making it! Since he was such a "big baby" they had to check his blood sugar levels 3 times last night prior to feeding. They were all 3 normal so that's great! We should be home tomorrow. I'm so ready to be home with my husband and DS-1.
