OT: Solutions for storing office supples/files without an office or desk

Hi ladies,
We are working on clearing our office out to make room for DS1 to move in. We were originally planning to consolidate our office and guest room and realized today that the furniture will not fit in the room at all as we hoped. H has now pitched the idea of just getting rid of our desk. We frequently have house guests so can not afford to lose the guest bed, plus we just bought the thing like 4 months ago! I have been trying to think of ways to lose the desk/office but still properly maintain our files and office supplies. I do not want a tacky metal file cabinet in the middle of a guest room but we have a lot of files to store. The desk we would be tossing has a built in file drawer that has been perfect until now. Plus I need to store, office supplies to include all of our pens/stapler/hole punch/envelopes/cards/printer/laminator/label maker/etc. This sounds like a FWP and it truly is, but I just wondered what some of you were doing if you do not have an office or a desk for storing these kinds of things.

    Sounds odd but my husband made the desk in the closet. Ply wood top nailed to walls, shelves above secured to walk and file cabinet underneath desk top. Very small closet but it fits great. Even have a chair that slides under desk and the door closes.

    That is actually kind of an interesting idea, constructing something within the closet. If you have any photo of that I would love to see it! :-)

    What about a hutch of some sort? Or a bookshelf with cabinet doors? I've seen a few at IKEA that are nice and I think some have a file cabinet you can add in.

    Oh IKEA how I love thee. We are headed there within the next couple weeks to get a book shelf for downstairs so I will check out what options they have. I confess that at least 50% of our furniture comes from IKEA so them having a solution for me is super likely.

    Thanks. Yeah he is very clever when it comes to these things. He hates mess and clutter so everything is tucked away.
